Oscar Noms

Which 2012 Oscar Nominated movies have you seen? The following are nominated for Best Picture; The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, The Help, Moneyball, War Horse and The Tree of Life.

I've only seen Moneyball. It was okay. I'd be very surprised if it won.

Re: Oscar Noms

  • I've only seen Midnight in Paris.  Some of them I hadn't even heard of (clearly I am uncultured).

For superduper Oscar-related fun, check out this thread:

Follow the flickr links to previous years.  She comes up with food/drink for each of the nominees and serves them at an Oscar party, then Photoshops the names on the movie poster.  Every year I get such a kick out of it!

  • Tree of Life?  I heard that movie was so boring cinemas were refunding people for seeing it.  Maybe that was an exaggeration, but I've only heard awful reviews about it.

I did see The Help and liked that pretty well.

I am dying to see The Descendants.

Don't know anything about most of the others.

I thought it was brilliant.  Very artsy, but I loved it. The Descendants was great, but super depressing.  The Help was Ok, definitely not Oscar worthy material. Why didn?t Drive get nominated?

  • I've seen Hugo, War Horse, and The Help.  The Help and War Horse were okay, but not Oscar-worthy.  I disliked Hugo so much that I actually walked out of the theater.

  • I've only seen The Help and The Descendants. I hated The Descendants. The Help wasn't bad but the book was better. I wouldn't be surprised if it one simply due to its subject matter.

  • I've only seen Moneyball.  I want to see The Descendants and I kind of want to see Extremely Loud &Incredibly Close, too, even though I'm sure I'll be bawling my eyes out.
  • I wanted to see the Artist. They are rereleasing it here in February, so I will probably see it then. They did end up refunding some people's money for this film because they didn't know it was a silent film in black and white. I think that was in Liverpool...
  • I haven't seen any of those. Actually, I've only been to the cinema once this year. I saw My Life with Marilyn (which has nominations for best actress: Michelle Williams and best supporting actor: Kenneth Branagh). I agree that Michelle did a great job.

It's not that I don't enjoy going--it's just that it costs quite a lot here compared to other sorts of entertainment that we enjoy more or equally.

I would like to see Midnight in Paris and Hugo from the best picture list, and also Iron Lady (best actress for my gal Meryl Streep).

  • I've only seen Midnight in Paris. I really liked it, though I don't know if it seemed like a best picture winner to me.
