Disney recommendations please

We are traveling to Disney World in April.  My DD will be almost 4 at the time and I wanted to see if any of you have recommendations or events/dinners/reservations that we MUST do.  I have already reserved dinner with the princesses at Cinderella's Royal Table.  Thank you so much for any suggestions!!!

My favorite character meal is the Winnie the Pooh & Friends one at the Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom.

And as for recommendations, has she seen Finding Nemo?  Of all the shows in the parks, the FN show at Animal Kingdom was my favorite.

  • We went last May.  We loved our breakfast with Cinderella.  Another fun thing we did was have dinner at the California Grill, then we watched the fireworks from the deck which is right off the dining room.  Our girls were tired afterward but it was worth it.  The views of Magic Kingdom from the California Grill are amazing!  Our last favorite thing was the electric light parade - it's definitely a must see.

  • There are a few character meals that are fun including Chef Mickey's, Winnie the Pooh at the Crystal Palace, and the Mickey and Friends BBQ at Fort Wilderness. I'm not sure if the last one is still there, I went 12 years ago with my family. I'm not sure how many character meals you want to do.

As kids, we also enjoyed the Sci Fi diner and the 50s prime time diner in Hollywood Studios.

I loved every. damn. parade. My poor parents.

If your daughter would enjoy more pictures with characters, going as soon as the park opens is crucial. There are a lot of characters at Magic Kingdom to meet including various princesses (but you have your dinner), Minnie and Mickey & Co., etc. Rapunzel is very popular right now and when we went in December her line was HUGE all day and it's near the castle.

If you go to Epcot, Winnie the Pooh is in the UK area inside the Toy Shop. Belle and the Beast will be in the France pavilion near a bridge. Jasmine and Aladdin will be in Morocco near the water. I believe all of them have signs that tell you when they'll be there. People will line up about 20 min before the character is there.

  • if she loves princesses definitly eat in epcot in norway, resturant is something like Ashekurs = it was fantastic  My friend told me it was better than the castle and she was right - ALL the princesses are there, not mobbed and they take the girls for a parad with them thru the room.  They spend a lot of time with the little girls - it was really great and you get a 8x10 with a princess also
  • This is all such great info!!
  • I also recommend Winnie the Pooh breakfast at Crystal Palace.  Make reservations for before the park opens and you can take pictures as you walk there with no one else on Main St.  It is really cool.

  • DD loves the Hoop De Doo Review.  Breakfast at Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary is a great place to see all the classic characters.

  • I took my son who is now 3 February 2011 and April 2010. We both really enjoyed Winnie the Pooh at the Crystal Palace; it was his birthday lunch. Last year we went to breakfast at the Grand Floridian with the Alice and Wonderland group. It was probably the best buffet breakfast food I've had at Disney since I've been. I especially enjoyed the Mad Hatter. I'm not sure if it's still there, but we also went to a lunch with the Play House Disney bunch (Handy Manny, Oso, etc.) Chef Mickey's is a must at least once.

  • I don't have kids, but my husband is kind of a kid. We really enjoyed Finding Nemo at AK and Lion King at AK. The shows like a Bugs Life and Fanstasmic (I think, near Dumbo in MK) were also awesome. All the kids around us loved them and they are pretty cool for the adults. Short too, maybe 10 minutes.

Fireworks at MK are a MUST, and Epcot was cool, but not awesome if you don't have front row. Have fun!

  • Thank you all for the great info!

  • oh she is going to love cindy's castle! even my boy loved it and still talks about "eating in the castle" even though he is not into princesses at all b/c well he's a boy, lol (although he was smitten with Belle). did you book anything else? you have to book the popular ones 6 months ahead of time or else they are difficult to get. We loved Crystal Palce, Chef Mickeys, the Tusker House is another good one that sticks out. Oh also Mickeys backyard bbq is a lot of fun and different from the usual dining options. They have a band (we had a great country band) bbq and dancing.

Also for girls there's the bibbity bobby botique. My  son went to the boy equivalant, the Pirates League and had a ball. Also, if your daugter is into star wars (there were some girls when my son did it), I definitely recommend the Jedi Training Academy in HS. That was the highlight of our trip this past year. (or one of them at least, we had a few).

We also really loved the pirates and pals cruise if you want to check that out. They take you out on the lake to watch Wishes. It was great, our captain was a riot. They sing songs and play games so it was really entertaining.

There's so much to do in Disney. We are addicts and go every year and we do something new each time we go. If you have any questions feel free to page me.

And of course, make sure you don't miss the Lion King or the Indiana Jones shows. They are favorites of ours.

    Have fun!

I second Epcot not being the best.  It'll probably also be a little bit boring for kids (I saw it when I was 28 and got bored! lol)  But definitely do one night in MK at the fireworks and do Fantasmic.  They're both so much fun!

  • Chef Mickey is awesome for breakfast if you can get it.  Do fantasy land first thing in the morning, a 4yo will be able to do all of it and you get the most important things out of the way.  My DS also loved the speedway in tomorrowland.  My kids were not into AK at all when DS was 3.5, I know some kids are but mine just like to pet animals and are not into looking and the rides are for older kids.

If you do Epcot, my DS still talks about Soarin, he was 4y5m the last time we went.  He also loved Living with the Land, he liked seeing where the vegetables grew, lol.

The most important thing, take your time and listen to your kids' cues.  Take time to go swimming at the hotel too, don't get so focused on the parks that you miss those other moments of the vacation.  DS constantly asks when we are going back (the bad side of going 2 years in a row) but when asked he wants to stay at the hotel more than go to the parks (we stayed off site.)
