Fenton, may I borrow you?

I'd like to talk laser hair removal, and I apologize in advance, because I know people page you about this crap all the time.

I just got a Groupon for the Brazilian, and I'm stoked, because I am the hairiest girl alive.  Nevertheless, I have a list of questions.

- Are you generally happy with your results?

-Will my package of 6 treatments likely suffice? (I know you don't know this, so please just tell me yes.)

- Compared to waxing, how bad's the pain?  Is the numbing cream worth it?

- Were your people, um, thorough?  I am really hoping this is like a legit Brazilian thing, none of this "we don't do the back" nonsense.

- Will my nethers look gross like hamburger meat after?

And, anything else you care to tell me, I will happily accept.

Thanks!!

  • Look, this isn't exclusive to Fenton.  Anyone else who wants to discuss pubic hair is welcome to chime in, ok?

  • I've had 4 sessions so far, so I'll share my experience even though my hair isn't as dark as yours.

I wasn't really noticing much of a difference, so the last two times they cranked up the laser and now I'm seeing the results I was hoping for.  Because of this, I suspect I'll probably have to go in for a couple more touch-ups after my 6 sessions are done. This might be a scam they do to get more money out of Groupon clients, or it may just be that my hair just isn't dark enough.

It does hurt more than waxing because it's not an all-at-once sort of thing.  It's lots of zaps.  It takes maybe 10 minutes total, so it's not a long time.  Numbing cream might be worth it.  It's not an awful pain and it goes away as soon as they're done, but if you're scared it might be worth it just for the peace of mind.

My people are very thorough -- I've told them not to do the back (I don't really have anything back there anyway).

My nethers are completely misshapen and smell like burning, but it's worth it because they're going to be hair-free.  I keed, I keed.  They look fine.

    Yes. Absolutely.

-Will my package of 6 treatments likely suffice? (I know you don't know this, so please just tell me yes.)

Mostly. My last one was early fall last year and I have a few wispy hairs coming back, but shaving them is no problem. There aren't many, and unlike their dead cousins, they do not have the radius of a toothpick and so no visible regrowth within 12 hours. I think I will eventually go back for a touch up. My aesthetician said I may need to do this once a year, but I'm thinking once every two years would probably work.

    - Compared to waxing, how bad's the pain?  Is the numbing cream worth it?

I've heard different responses from different people. Mine felt pretty bad. I would do the numbing cream if I remembered (which I never did, and always regretted mid-zapping). Take Tylenol or aspirin before you go in, too.

    - Were your people, um, thorough?  I am really hoping this is like a legit Brazilian thing, none of this "we don't do the back" nonsense.

I didn't get a Groupon, I paid for my area covered and got a package discount. So I could done it all, but it was already like $600 for just the bikini sides (plus about an inch inward). I have Groupons that I need to finish using (damn, I forgot), but I think they try to skimp on the area they'll do for the Groupon price. It depends on the terms of your purchase I guess.

    - Will my nethers look gross like hamburger meat after?

There will be red spots and the burned hair will take a few days, maybe more, to work itself out. If you like popping zits, you're in luck, because you can squeeze the dead hair out to get rid of it faster --- the satisfaction gained is much like bursting a whitehead. I had once instance in which the lasers burned my skin. Not sure if that was because I'd had some sun exposure a few weeks before. That took a couple of weeks to heal. Other than that, it's been great.

  • GOZF: I had only six done bc I was convinced that was all I needed.  Fast forward a year and I was no longer hairless.  Fast forward 4 years and I shave just as much as I did before, but there is less hair.  I would probably do it again at some and do the recommended 8+ that the tech kept telling me I needed.

  • The lady that's going to do mine said a lot of the chain places use lasers that aren't as strong, which is why you might not see as much success as you like. I don't care how much it hurts. I can't wait.

Maybe that's why some people say it doesn't hurt that bad. If you can judge by how painful it was, I'm very hopeful.
