Music at work

Do you listen to music at work? Or when you're just around the house? What kinds of music do you listen to?

Re: Music at work

  • I didn't when I worked at school because there were offices nearby and I hate wearing headphones in public places. I may be old fashioned, but it's rude and significantly limits the number of conversations you have per day, and I really like talking to people lol.

At home I kinda have a routine now that I'm writing my thesis. I wake up between 5-6 and read the news while listening to some spa music or jazz while drinking a cup of coffee and eating breakfast. In the shower I listen to 50's-60's music or broadway tunes because it's ideal to sing to (for me at least). While writing I can't listen to anything because the words distract me. When researching I usually listen to indie-ish music like Iron & Wine or Mumford & Sons, etc. When I'm cleaning I need some serious upbeat music because I like to dance and clean at the same time, so either dance remixes or 80's pop. When I run I listen to rap. Occasionally if I'm missing home I'll listen to 80's-90's country because it's what I grew up on.

And this is what I mean when I tell people I listen to anything and they don't believe me. lol.

  • Whatever is going on onstage is piped in through the offices at work, so I don't generally listen to anything while working. If it's a non-performance or rehearsal day, I might turn on Spotify - typically I listen to 90's (grunge/alternative) or old punk (Bad Religion, Guitar Gangsters, the Vibrators, the Buzzcocks).

I don't listen to much around the house, unless I'm cleaning or cooking - then I'll throw on one of those music channels - the ones that are, like, channel 5,000. Usually new age/punk or alternative.

I NEED music when I run alone, so I alway bring my iPod. I love running to anything upbeat - the Sounds, some Alkaline Trio, Hot Hot Heat. My iPod is terribly outdated, though.

  • I listen to a lot of different things too. At work, I listen to Pandora and the main stations I listen to are Glee, Mumford & Sons, Great Big Sea, or Bing Crosby.

In the car I usually listen to the pop or classic rock stations.

At home, we stream Last.fm through the Xbox and I usually listen to the Mumford & Sons station or Broadway while cooking and cleaning.

  • I always wish I was in Hawaii (the ultimate plan is to eventually move out there), so I listen to KCCN FM100 online while I'm at work.  It's nice because they're 4 hours ahead, so I get to listen to my local morning show & then Oahu's morning show for most of the rest of the day.  It's cheezy, but hilarious at the same time.  My best friend is from (and lives) Oahu, so I always joke with her about the traffic that I hear throughout the day.  She thinks it's funny and says that I'm more Hawaiian than she is.
