In-Your-Home Childcare

I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies out here in the central Iowa area have done any research about the costs of bringing someone into your home (not live-in, just a daily "baby-sitter") to care for children instead of sending your little ones to a daycare elsewhere?

How would you go about finding someone like that? How do you determine the pay that you offer?

I am looking for more options other than day care centers and in-home day care providers. No kids yet but I'm a planner that way.

TIA

Re: In-Your-Home Childcare

  • We used Care.com and I found 3 awesome candidates, and at least 5 more that I would definitely interview.  I found that most of the good candidates are looking for around $10/hour if not a little more.

  • When I worked, I also went through care.com.  I paid $9 per hr for an amazing gal who would take Cole to playgroups and interact with him at our house.  Most "nannies" will also clean but we emphasized that we wanted Cole to be the focus and not worry about cleaning, just picking up a little after lunch and playtime.
