POLL: If you color your hair, how often?

I realized yesterday just how drab my hair was and how gray, esp. at the temples.  Since I wear my hair back this is an issue.  I call and get an appt for today.  Sweet.

I go and she informs me that I was last there in....May.  Seriously?!  May?  No wonder it looks like crapola.  She was like "actually, it looks great for nearly 9 months of grow-out".  LOL.

Anyway, she does her thing and another lady sits down and was chatting with her colorist.  She was last there JANUARY 3rd.  This year.  She was nearly completely gray.  I wanted to die.  I hope that never happens to me.  I don't have the time or money to go every 3 weeks!

  • Mabye it was January 3rd 2010? haha

I go every other appointment so maybe every 12-16 weeks. I usually get all over color so it's not as noticeable as highlights since the color tends to fade out.

    Happiest place on Earth!

  • I get highlights and low lights every 12-16 weeks.  I could go longer but I just keep my appointments spaced out every 6-8 weeks--haircut, haircut and color, etc

  • Oh no, it was 2012.  She said "you were here Jan 3rd" and the woman was like "yea, 3 weeks, that's what I thought...".

I get if you get highlights/lowlights, etc you have to go more, of course.  But 3 weeks?!  Holy cow.

I just get single process and a glaze so it fades more than grows out.  and the grays come back.  F**ckers.

That's impressive.  I also get my hair cut about twice a year so maybe I'm on the same haircut, haircut, color schedule...it's just over the span of a year, LOL.

My lady closed her salon and works our of her home--she built a little salon there.  So I feel guilty if I don't rebook right then.  Plus it is only 30 bucks for my cut and 60 for my color so it is a deal--it is really the only thing I do for myself.

  • I go about every 4-5 months, depending on how noticeable the grow out is. The longest I think I've ever gone between color appts is 6 months. My cousin is my hair dresser and has people that come in every 2-3 weeks just for color. I couldn't afford nor find the time to go that often. Plus, I'd be afraid of how dried out my hair would get.

Finally a Mrs as of June 7, 2008

    That's awesome!!

I usually go for a color everyone 3-4 months...sometimes longer.  I do all over color so it isn't quite as noticeable.  When I was blonde and getting highlights I had to go every 4-6 weeks...and even then it looks bad with regrowth.

It's so darn expensive that I wait as long as possible.  And I only get my hair cut when I go for my color.

JEALOUS!  Yea, that'd be why I go as little as possible.

My single process color is $90 and my haircut is like $150, maybe?  But, hair is in NYC, in a big salon and we have a discount through work.  But still.  It's an indulgence so yea, I go sparingly.

I too end up going maybe 2 or 3 times a year.  I actually do highlights because with my hair color they tend to grow out well and it isn't as noticeable so I can go for longer.

  • I go every 8 weeks.  I have well water (with a significant amount of rust) so my hair looks like brassy butt if I don't go that often.  I get an all over color and highlights in addition to a cut and its $100 after tip.
  • I stopped when I was pregnant with Ryan and I've been too lazy to start again and it is also expensive to keep up.   Thankfully I only have a few grays.

My schedule used to be a colored, with a cut 5-6 weeks later and then colored at my next appt in another 5-6 weeks.  So coloring every 10-12 weeks.

  • I am there every 6-8 weeks, those pesky grays suck! For the winter, I went back to just single process to make my hair healthier again and save some money.

I usually get some highlights in the warmer months, and end up spending an arm and a leg to keep it up.

  • Let's see... In 2011 I had it done in February, June, and October.  I just got my hair done yesterday, so I go about every 4th month.  It costs $225 for a cut and color so although I probably should go every 3 months instead of 4, I really stretch it.  Honestly, the color I have done isn't very far from my natural color, and especially in the summer I don't think my growth is noticeable as it blends pretty well.
