Re: Valentine's Day
When I was SINGLE I hated the holiday of course. But now I don't mind it. I think it may be a little too much hype for a simple holiday.
We always wait after valentines day to celebrate because then everything is on sale!
We usually stay home, BBQ a good steak, and open a bottle of wine (or two).
We normally don't do gifts. My birthday is 11 days later, so I like to give him a break

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermWe discussed going out for dinner before the day not on it due to crowds and expense. He usually buys flowers a week or so before so they are cheaper. I am hoping to surprise him that night with a special dinner.
We took our honeymoon 14 months after the wedding. We had a nice romantic dinner on the beach in Costa Rica. They used wicker chargers for the table setting. I found some at Christmas and bought them but DH does not know. I was going to surprise him with some dishes we had in CR. We also bought a sauce there that we liked at breakfast. So I was going to make the typical breakfast fare and set the table similar to that night on the beach.
BUT, I just heard that I may have to travel out of town for work on Valentines day so the surprise and celebration will be on another day.
We don't have anything planned as of yet. We both work that day so we may just go out to dinner or else stay home and make a nicer dinner than usual. Jason's birthday is on the 22nd and we usually have a party for that, plus my Mom's and little brother's birthdays are in February too (one on the 6th and one on the 18th) so money is usually tight for me in February. Last year we agreed not to do gifts but I came home to a homemade card and a cute Valentine's day themed teddy bear from him and the cats; it was really sweet
but kind of made me feel bad that I didn't get him anything, so maybe this year we'll agree to do little $10 gifts or something like that.
haven't really talked about it yet, I know the place we went for our anniversary is doing a special for a few days before and day of, it's a 3-course meal for 2 for 89.00 so might see if he's interested in that. if not we'll in and make a nice meal.
As for gifts... sometimes we get each other small things like a movie or itunes gift card. last year we talked about it and said no gifts but we still did cards. so will see.
