Update on Mr. Mac
The vet called this morning and said that Mac pulled out his fluids catheter last night and didn't eat all night, but she was pretty sure it was because he was huddled in the corner of the cage in rage. Seriously, THIS is what my cat is like at the vet:

Well, maybe not that bad...but he is not polite. So instead of keeping him another night, she sent him home. She is giving him subcutaneous antibiotics, which is why she was hesitant, but since I gave them to the dogs at my last job, she trusts me to do them with him, too (it's essentially the same: pick up skin on his upper back and stick a needle in).
As soon as they brought him into the room he was growling and screaming, but once he figured out it was me, he started headbutting me and purring and was the happiest cat I've ever seen. He hasn't left my side since we got home, except for a bit when he decided to inhale some food.
He is acting so much better. The doctor still isn't 100% sure what's going on with him, but he'll be on the antibiotics for a couple of weeks and we'll go from there. The other cats are still unhappy with him because he smells like the vet.
I'm so happy that I came home with good news today instead of bad.

I had a cat that acted like that at the vet! I brought him in once when he'd been bitten by another animal and they seriously thought he had rabies because of his behavior. Glad your kitty is pulling through! I've had to give my cat shots and it's not bad, if you've done it to dogs you can do it. One thing my vet did to make it easier for me was to shave a little patch over that skin at the neck, so I could see that the needle was in. They don't even seem to feel the needle stick!
Great news! The shots aren't bad, I've had to give them to my horses before, and my old cat had diabetes, which was two a day. If you've given them to dogs it's exactly the same.

Hooray! I am so happy to hear it! SubQ's aren't bad. You just worry about sticking them, but my childhood kitty had diabetes so we got really used to the whole skin tent plus inject. You worry about it more than the cat does!

Soooo true. I remember apologizing to my cat for months when giving her her insulin. But by the time she died (about 2 months ago after 5 years of diabetes) we were all just like, "all right, get the heck up here and let's do this thing". They don't care at all.

And yeah, subQs really aren't that bad. I had a cat I had to give them to for a long time (well, fluids anyway). God love that little girl... She was so patient with me!
