Re: .

  • I just had this last week (on top of my milk blister issue-- yikes).  I got a prescription for Jack Newmans Ointment.  It had to be filled at a compound pharmacy, but it worked wonders.  It is a cream that I would put on after each nursing.  I didn't have to wash it off and didn't have to put anything in baby's mouth.  I felt a difference in about 2 days and it is almost completely better one week later.

My doctor prefers the Jack Newman cream over some other treatments.

  • A friend on fb had it in her ducts too and asked. She got 32 comments! The most common were vinegar, the best response being:

" Yes after every feeding I'd squirt it onto a rag and hold it onto my nipples, wiped down the baby's mouth, pacifier, changing table, and used it on the wipes when I changed the diaper when there was a rash. 1-2 T vinegar to every 8oz water."

Also recommended was gentian violet. It will turn baby purple though. She posted a pick of her LO with a purple ring around her mouth. There was a post that recommended " i would also put a little aquaphor on her face before you treat/feed her, it will cut down on her face getting all purple. then wipe it off after the feeding."

  • We fought a long and awful battle with thrush after having Lincoln. He was being treated with Nystatin immediately and my OB prescribed Nystatin cream for me. Didn't work after 2 weeks of it. I started taking acidophilus capsules daily over the counter. We tried the vinegar and as our last desperate resort went to the gentian violet. Within 2 days, saw a big difference in Lincoln's thrush and it felt better to nurse him. So sorry you're suffering with this. I feel your pain. It was horrible and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Good Luck! I hope you can get rid of it quickly and feel better!
