Gatlinburg, TN Hidden Gems?

DH and I settled on Gatlinburg for our vacation, we are renting a small cabin and just kicking back for the week. I was wondering, though, if anyone knew of any hidden gems in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/surrounding areas. Whether it be restaurants, shows, shops, etc. Anything you suggest doing? I know most of the touristy stuff, I have been there a few times, I am looking for things that I may have missed.

  • We have never been....So excited! Hoping to get some good ideas here! Is there anything you would suggest for first timers?
  • Well, when I have went in the past it was on family vacations so we did a lot of the touristy things. We did the helicopter ride over the mountains, we did the aquarium(I always go to aquariums.. love them) and there is a really cute mini golf in the hillside that we've done in the past, also. Dollywood is nice, but from what I remember it wasn't as amusement-y as I had expected, it had a lot of shows and a lot of shops.  I found a zipline tour that we are probably going to do when we go there. After that stupid Geico commercial with the squealing pig DH wants to do a zipline. lol.

Cherokee, NC is nearby and there is a reservation there that you can tour, but I honestly can't remember what there was and Harrahs is nearby too if you are gamblers.

  • We for sure will be going to the aquarium. The golf thing sounds fun...Dh is a huge golfer. I am more into Mini golf than golf golf.

Zipline...That sounds awesome! Funny about the squealing pig! Ha!

  • There is a trail that is short and easy that takes you to a cool waterfall in the park. We stopped in the visitor's center and the ranger gave us advice. While we were hiking, we saw two bears! It was fun. The trail was only maybe half a mile. Very easy.

Also, we went to the microbrewery in town. It was the best meal we had while we were there!

  • Visit Cades Cove. Lots of walking trails and the views are beautiful.
