I've never ever tried zumba before. I run, take spin class, lift, and occasionally use the elliptical. I've heard it's fun, but have yet to try it.
That said, my church is hosting an open zumba-thon tomorrow afternoon as a fundraiser for a local food bank. It's 3 hours of zumba (you can drop in for a bit or stay the whole time) and it's free, they just ask you to bring a food donation for the food bank.
Should I go try it, assuming I don't have to spend all day in the office tomorrow? Talk me off the ledge... the best exercise is one you haven't tried yet... do you end up getting in a good cardio workout?
And if any zumba fanatics are interested, let me know and I can send you the details!

Re: Zumba-holics
zumba is lots and lots of fun. i only did it a couple times, though, before ktfu-exhaustion kicked in and i wasn't able to continue. i say definitely give it a try, at least. it might not be awesome, depending on who the leader is, so try it at your church, then try it again at a gym.
it's very different from the cardio that you're currently doing--but personally i think your cardio is boring

Ouch.
If I ran on a treadmill, I'd agree with you. But running outside with music is not boring. And spin class can really suck without a good instructor, but I have a really good one so that's not boring either. It just depends on the situation
But in general, I don't like cardio. I have to be really entertained or I'll quit.

haha if you don't like cardio, this might be fun for you. because i hate regular cardio--elliptical, treadmill, bikes (although i've never done a spin class)... i always-always do the classes for cardio. whether it's dance, kickboxing, step...something with music and people..that's the kinda cardio i like.

That sounds like fun. If I wasn't sick and had bkb I'd do it with you. I say give it a try.
I haven't tried Zumba. Totally flamworthy, but it doesn't seem like a hard enough work out for me. Of course I said the same thing about hot yoga and I nearly died.

I LOVE zumba! I mostly only love zumba with gabby.. but whatevs. I've only been to 2 teachers and I only like one so I only go to her.
Zumba is a lot of fun and a good way to mix it up!
also, to answer your question, it is definitely worth a shot! you should totally try it out and see if you like it or not.
i would want to come but my normal zumba is tomorrow and it's 1.5hrs on sat so that will be enough for me!
hope you try it out and love it!
I feel better now. I went with a friend who does not work out and has exercise-induced asthma and she was better at hot yoga than I was. Me and yoga aren't friends.

You should read my blog entry about my love, but mostly HATE relationship with yoga. I think I posted it last August/September. I will never do hot yoga again.

maybe hot yoga is more for us that don't like running
i wouldn't say i *like* hot yoga, but i didn't get bored. i'm flexible with my history of gymnastics, but i lost a lot of that with age..so it feels good to get out there and stretch and really push my body again. i also enjoy the heat, since i was mostly doing it in the winter!
