I don't like the increased tracking of my movements if I'm signed into the dashboard, so I'll make sure I'm signed out except when I'm posting to my blog. I don't want to switch over to Wordpress because it requires installing a program on the PC and I want the easy portability of web-based like Blogspot is. I don't mind anonymous data tracking for useage statistics, but I really don't like the idea of tracking all my searches linked to ME. God, everything in search of the almighty dollar, all our privacy be damned. I swear, every month brings us a little closer to an Orwellian future. ![]()
So, what do you think?

i'm not usually worried about privacy issues for "those" kind of sites, since i have nothing to hide (or nothing interesting for them to find)..so i just skip over privacy policy changes.....somebody should sum it up for us plz.

I didn't actually read it. I just clicked accept.
I'm probably getting turned in to a humancentiPad.
I'm not sure exactly - hoping one of our techie-types will weigh in! The news story this morning was making it sound like they were going to track EVERYTHING. I don't WANT a database out there of every query I do, etc. I stopped using gmail because I didn't like that the ads on the side were tailored based on content in my email I was typing! I don't care if that was a bot algorithm, it went too far. I'm a curious and semi-intellectual person. I don't want to potentially be pulled into questioning at some point just because I look up info on home made bombs, etc (which I might do because I question info in some news article or something I read in a book or magazine, just for intellectual knowledge).
KST - that makes sense
I think government officials would mostly be appalled at the number of words I've googled to figure out the spelling and/or definition.

The Cliff Notes version is that instead of having different Privacy Policies for Google Search, Gmail, Maps, YouTube, G+, Android, Picasa/Google Photos, Chrome, etc., (a) everything owned by Google now has one privacy policy, and (b) that policy says that any Google Product can share what it knows about you with any other Google Product.
Basically it increases the chances that they know what you're trying to do when you search for something ambiguous like "Jaguars" (did you mean the animal, the football team, or the car? Oh, you watched some clips of Top Gear, you probably meant the car), and also that they'll be able to deliver you more relevant ads. For most things this doesn't mean anything scary. But if you have an Android Phone Google can work out where you are, which starts to make things a little creepy. That's bad news. But he privacy policy says they don't share anything "personally identifiable" with any third party. So Google knows all this stuff about you, but no one else does. Less Bad News! But there's no list of what's "personally identifiable" ...
in general if you're worried about this stuff, Facebook, which is much much worse (they're totally fine with sharing personally identifiable information with third parties)

Me, too, but this has largely resulted in things like, when I search for stuff in Fremont, I get the Seattle neighbourhood rather than the town in California.
