So I'm bored and just googled beach/lake houses. Some of these are very, very expensive, but pretty to look at
We also don't know the head count yet, but some of these sleep 14-30 people.
North Carolina:http://www.rentabeach.com/1219000

Texas: HUGE, but very EXPENSIVE http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p944587
Florida: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p338473
Illinois (Galena): http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p172842

Re: Beach houses
Well, from the headcount, it looks like we have 29-30 girls coming, tentatively. If it's a $5K house, that's $166 per girl for the entire week. Maybe if we can get it down to 100 per girl, more people can come. Sooo, that'd be $3k a week, or $428.57 a night (pre-tax).
Looking at the map, it may be easier for us to do something in a more North/Eastern state. There's a big concentration from Kansas City to the East and from Texas to the East. We could do something like Virginia or North Carolina to minimize travel for the most people.
OR we could find a good lake more central (Kansas/Colorado). It's not a beach, but still on the water.
Love the North Carolina house!!! (Although for this year the June price is $12,000/week?!?!?!)
The Texas house is gorgeous, but $1000/night? No thanks...lol...plus we're in the middle of the worst drought in history, so I kind of doubt the lake will have much water in it
Plus, it isn't close to an airport...
Florida house: All I have to say is...WATERSLIDE!
Illinois house is nice, but the airports are over 100 miles away, not sure how we would all get out there.
The airport thing may be a problem. Every house I'm finding that's promising is 80-90 miles from the airport because most seaside towns don't have airports.
Everybody would have to get there at the same time. What cities are close to water and an airport?
Oh wait, I have an idea.
We may have to plan for people to A) sleep together and
bring air mattresses. We won't find one that sleeps 30 that won't be crazy expensive... if we could even find one that sleeps 30.
I'm down to car pool!! I'm in Chicago, not to far from you.
edit: I guess I'm not on the way lol, if we choose north carolina.
Virginia: http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/45903.html?promoType=none
2013 rates aren't up, but in the time we've discussed for 2012, the most expensive is $4300 a week ($614 a night or $20.46 per person per night).
Maybe we could look for a condo that has several units/ houses close together and rent a couple. We would have to split up to sleep but could gather to hang out.

Love the outside pool area.
Umm...awesome. I love that there are 2 stoves...which will probably be pretty important if we're planning on cooking quite a bit!
This is all so exciting!! I love the idea of North Carolina, especially because I've never been to the east side of the state and I've heard it's amazing. I also love the Michigan house. I worked in that area at a fine arts camp one summer and the area is drop dead gorgeous. The National Cherry Festival is up there, and if you like awesome music, theater, and art, Interlochen is close by as well!
Because this is so far in advance, it's going to take a lot of coordination. Let's say which choose a week and stick with it, and set a price that everyone is comfortable with. Then set a date by which everyone who wants to go must commit (maybe November?), and then after seeing how many people commit and PAY, then see how expensive of a house we can afford. Then we can try to book a house by December. How does that sound?

I think this is very smart.
I agree! More people will know their finances and where they are in life (ie: pregnant and due in the summer or not lol) So we can get a more accurate count of who can really go.
I'd love to go to Myrtle Beach!! Again, I've never been there but I've heard really good things about it!

I was thinking that too and was actually looking. I wish we still had our houses there.
My Aunt & Uncle live in Myrtle Beach...so I would have to go visit them, at least for a little bit, if we went there
It is not "central" but I have gone to Gulf Shores many, many times and it is wonderful. In fact, Vic and I went for our honeymoon and stayed at "The Beach Club" wonderful! Beautiful!
Most people drive. From STL it is about 11 hours (depending on who's driving), But the gang on in the southeast would be able to make it easily. Flying in would be New Orleans or Mobile.
Just thinking...
I love the idea of north carolina. I have family there and am looking at moving around there in a few years. so, I will probably drive down. So, I can always pick up girls from an airport if needed.
The michigan house is very close to where Hubby and I got married!
I think we could get away with a "smaller" house and have people bring air mattresses/sleeping bags. I know I don't mind. It will be easier when we can narrow it down
