Need a new obgyn

Hi all-I am a 32 week FTM and I need to switch Dr's. I currently go to Area Wide Obgyn and I cannot stand it there. They never discuss test results or give advice. The Dr's are with you maybe 3-5 minutes each visit. We reallly feel like we are being neglected. Any suggestions? Also, which hospital do you prefer? Metro or Spectrum Downtown (Butterworth).

Nope!  That board is dead.  There are a few expecting moms on this board (plus a lot of already-moms).  :)

They will all give you good suggestions when they pop on.

  • I'll be very interested in the responses. I need to make an appointment for March or April.

  • I really love Dr. Michelle Klyn. She is in the Women's Health Center off of Michigan by College. I found all of the doctors in that office were very nice & always took time to make sure all of my questions were answered. One of the doctors even spent 30 minutes with me on the phone in the middle of the night when I freaked out because I was spotting. Each doctor in that office is a Spectrum doctor. I thought the staff at Spectrum was very nice when I had my daughter. If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them. Good luck with your search!

  • I 2nd Dr. Klyn.  She's so easy to talk to.  I saw her before I got pregnant, during my pregnancy and she did my c-section.

I didn't have any problems with Butterworth.  Everyone was really nice, and the nurses that were on shift when I was in labor were really great.  My husband works there now too, so I think I'm a little more biased towards them.  : )

A friend delivered at Metro, but we never discussed her experience there (would be 4 years ago).  I could always ask her if you really wanted to know.

  • We are pretty curious about Metro as it is only like 3-5 minutes from our house!

Ditto this office. I see Dr. Ulstad, but have no complaints about the other docs in the practice. Love.

  • Another vote for Dr Klyn!  I saw her before I had children, during my pregnancy with my first son, and again with this baby.  There have been times when I needed to see other doctors/PAs in the practice and they are all wonderful.  I delivered at Spectrum and had a great experience.

  • This was good for me too.  I don't have an ob/gyn and we are going to start ttc in the spring.  I've always seen my family doctor for my yearly exams.

  • You also have my response on the other bord but I will share here too since it seams there are a few interested.

I go to Grand Rapids Womens Health. It is in the Womens Health building at MI and Collage. I see Dr. Edvenson and he is a great Doc. This is my 4th baby with him as my Doc and he delivered my sister(she is 10).

Over the years I have seen pretty much every Doc in the office and they are all great. They are really kind and they really listen to what you have to say, and really care that you are not only health but as happy as they can make you!

All of the office staff is great. I also love that you don't have to go anywhere else besdies the hospital. They have their own ultrasound department, and there is a lab in the same buliding. Their is also a little cafe down in the lobby, and Baby Beloved is also right there as well.

Personally I really dont like Butterworth as a whole.(I hate their ER) But all of the labor and deliivery nurses have been really great. I love that Devos Childreans is also attached. My yougest monster was born 6 week early and I was able to be close to her the whole time she was in NICU. Had I gone to Metro like I wanted to they would have transfered her and she would have been all the way across town.

  • This was helpful as I'm new to the GR area and am trying to find an OB to get established with. Thanks!

  • My family practicioner serves as my OB/GYN, and isn't seeing any new patients.  I know that makes me useless here.

I just wanted to say hi to all of the "non-regulars."  Post here more often!
