  • but if I go with A, then I automatically get B too.

so while I would like A, I'll have to pick C since B is the worst option.

  • I agree B is the worst.  I have a late Feb b-day, and as a kid always hated that it was so cold and snowy every time.  (when I turned 22, however it was freakishly warm - like pushing 60)

So, therefore, I had to pick A.  (this is what we'd shoot for ourselves, if I can convince DH to try for a second...)

  • My birthday is 3 weeks from my brother, and it was never an issue.  We always celebrated separately.  January wouldn't be so bad either...not worse than say February or March in Maine.

  • My brother's birthday is 11 before mine and it was never a big deal. (My mom is 6 before that, and dad is 2 before that- we like to keep it in the Leo family!)

But then again, he is 8 years younger, so maybe that would have made a difference? I still voted A.

But I think you should consider cold January... because a new little one might want to have a local buddy a month or two younger.... just sayin.

Edited: 11 what? Hours? Days? Weeks? Months? Years? Not helpful there, Erika. 11 days- he's 11 days before me.

  • Well, my brother was born in November, so it's all cold, in that case.  I chose January, though my H is 1/22 and has complained about how his birthday parties always had low attendance due to snow storms, which is so sad.  I do have friends born on 12/26 and 1/1 and they both LOVE their birthdays, so there's that!

  • I'm November, so that is cold, but not January cold (usually no snow).

I have two cousins whose birthday is Christmas day and two grandmothers with birthdays on 12/26. Does that help?

  • My brother & I were born on the SAME day, 2 years apart.  One of us was 4 weeks early, the other was 2 weeks late...totally bizarre.  Neither of us ever wished that upon our future kids growing up, because we always had to share birthday dinners, parties, etc. and never had just a day all to ourselves like other people.  My mom tried so hard and gave us our own "friend" parties each year, but it's just not the same.

Within a few weeks of each other is no biggie, nor is January.  That being said, "a few weeks" could mean the same day if baby #2 isn't on time though!  Jake & Katie are one month and 1 day apart, born in late January & February so I guess they got a crappy deal  :o/.  Maybe we'll have some fun sledding parties, or even 1/2 birthdays in the summer!

ha!  I am too tired to do math...I had to quickly think, "wait!  is Erika pregnant?!?"  Okay, that would be a long gestational period.

My little sister's birthday is 6 days before mine.  No big deal at all...wasn't when we were kids, and still isn't.

  • DH's birthday is four days before his little brother's birthday and as far as I can tell, it hasn't emotionally scarred him. If it was such a big deal, he wouldn't have married me, because my birthday is the day after his brother's!

  • Mine is Jan 10th and DH is Jan 22nd.  The nice part about Jan birthdays is it gives something to look forward to in the long winter months.

  • I don't think any of these is a big deal.  I have family members in all three of these situations and my birthday is always within a week of Thanksgiving.  They're a pain but they don't stop you from having a great birthday! Kristen80's situation, on the other hand, stinks.  I read her post and thought "Boo."

    hmmmm :)

We were in that toss up and I'm a big stinker on wanting a warmer b-day, plus there are so many b-days for my family in Nov and Jan. I already get bummed that DD came early and will pretty much always have snow on the ground. There aren't as many fun things to do outside. But, that being said out of YOUR choices. I would go with close to siblings b-day. I don't see that as being a big deal. Heck, when they get older they could choose to just throw one giant party. Woot woot :)

  • I think Jess needs to commit because I might out her on my suspicions...lol :)

I get to vote for all three because my birthday is exactly that.  Jan 2.  I have a twin brother and my older brother's birthday  is Dec 16.

    So I pick all three.

We purposely wanted to avoid winter months because of how my birthday falls.  It svcked sooo bad growing up. and still does

  • My birthday is four days after my sisters, and it's never bothered me one bit. We even shared birthday parties and cakes, and I still didn't care.

  • Oh lala. This is a fun poll! We don't have any of those birthday issues in my family. Well, my dad's birthday is 6 days before mine, but that's ok... I am having a hard time choosing a situation I wouldn't want to be in.

When I was in college, my birthday was always over spring break (March) and that kind of bummed me out for some reason... and my brother's was always over April Vacation or Passover (and therefore no birthday cake). My sister sometimes has to fast for Yom Kippur on her birthday (October)...

  • My brother and I are two years and two weeks apart and it was never a big deal... he would get upset though because my birthday fell while we were still in school (June 9) and his was not (June 23) and I was a little bummed because I always had to go to school on my birthday and he never did... he never got school parties and I never got the day off lol.... the grass is always greener!  But as far as the distance between the two, it was not anything we ever really thought of... I would have my party and he would have his and since we were different ages and had different friends it was never a big deal.

I picked cold January though because I always thought ice skating parties or sledding parties would be fun!  And in your case, it could get rather busy for you if you had Thanksgiving, Abby's birthday and Christmas, plus another LOs birthday to plan all at the same time!

  • (Practically) My entire family was born between December and March. My sister and I are both in February and only 15 days apart. Yes, winter birthdays are a bummer since you don't get to do fun pool parties or anything like that. But having them two weeks apart was never a problem. We never really did a ton for our birthdays in the first place though. It was nice when we were at boarding school together because my parents would come down and we'd just spend the entire weekend celebrating them both together during the weekend in between our dates. I don't think having them two weeks apart was bad at all.

  • I don't have any problem with any of those, but DH is convinced that having a birthday near Christmas scars a kid for life.  I'm attempting to talk him out of that right now, actually.  I've even offered my cousin's perspective that it's fine.  Her birthday is ON Christmas.

I will say, though, that January's no different than most of the rest of the year as far as preventing you from throwing an outdoor birthday party or going to the waterpark or something.  Growing up, I was always so jealous my friend Julie's birthday party was at a waterpark.  My birthday's in March, so that was obviously not a problem.  BUT, Julie was always bummed that her birthday fell over summer vacation when you weren't in school to bring in cupcakes and your friends might be away for your party.

I guess what I mean is, there are always going to be things that make it not perfect.  But whether it's snowy weather or possible overshadowing by a holiday or other birthday, you can account for all of those things and make sure they're not problems.

    I think.

:) Oh, I didn't think you were yet, but just interesting about the TTC part :) I think for me, right now dealing with #2, hearing friends get on the #2 bandwagon is just as huge as being pregnant

  • "A" gets me a cold month either way (January & March). I like my birthday though. I'm a stubborn Taurus and wouldn't change it for anything ;)
  • My brother and I are a month apart and it wasn't a big deal.   My 2 nephews are 3 weeks apart and my sister does their "family birthday" as a combo.  They don't seem to mind.   Nolan and his sibling will be close.   Being a teacher, I will be shooting for another April/May/June baby.   And this conversation and all the new babies and preggo announcements are giving me wicked baby rabies!!!  Wish we were able to try again soon, but the thought of 2 in daycare makes me want to end it.   Have to figure that part out!   So excited for more babies on this board though!

Oh I said close to Christmas because mine is the 7th and makes the whole month of December awesome, but that's *really* close. I change my answer to January. As a kid I don't think I'd mind being close to a sibling, but as a parent I'd feel the need to do a party for each and if they were really close that could be a pain. Says the girl who will have two barely a month apart.

  • Well, since DH is out of town for two weeks, that rules out November and I'm leaning against Christmas.  Jesus, if I had known we'd be waiting another freaking year and a half,  I would have gotten knocked up before I got a job.  No regrets, right??  We both totally have baby rabies - I think Tim more than I!

  • I'm B. and C.  My birthday is Jan. 7th - exactly 2 weeks after Christmas Eve and a week after New Year's Eve.  When I was younger I HATED it... partly because we celebrate Christmas with family in NY so they always gave me my birthday presents then and it was usually wrapped in Christmas wrapping and then would usually forget to call on my actual b-day.  Obviously birthdays are about more than just gifts but when you're little, it's a big deal.  Now that I've gotten older, it's not as bad and I've learned to love my birthday.  But it was definitely hard in college too because I didn't get to celebrate with my friends and any birthday party that anyone has ever tried to plan for me was inevitably botched due to snow.  And birthday parties inside weren't that fun anyways.

But I'm a Capricorn which I love.  And like I said, now that I'm older, I've embraced my birthday more.  Especially when I celebrate it in Ireland.  :)

  • Ummm... I read the question wrong (I blame the Pinot).  I thought you were asking IF we had one of those Birthdays.  You get the idea though, right?  Stick out tongue
  • Thanks ladies! Fun to read through! !
