So as not to threadjack.
I never used tasso at home, so I haven't needed to find a replacement for it. I found some cocktail smokies-sized chorizo sausages which are a fair subsitute for the andouille my grandmother used in her chicken & sausage gumbo. I can't remember the brand, but they are in with the specialty cheeses/pates at my Woolies. I also found a good substitute for smoked sausage, which I use in gumbo and as an adjunct to red beans & rice. I think it's called rookwurst, though I am not sure about that. I picked it up because it looks just like a package of the oval Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage. I have not found a decent replacement for the Bryan hot dogs my grandmother used in her gumbo.
I honestly thought the hardest thing to find would have been pickle pork for the beans & rice. I was quite surprised and frustrated when it turned out to be the beans! I indulged in a jar of gumbo file (among other things) at the USA Foods store when I was in Melbourne last week. I had brought two big canisters of Tony Cachere's with me, and have only used about 1/3 of one.

I also agree with the sausgaes being available at woolies but you can also try continental (european) delis and/or butchers as well.
Dorothy you mentioned cheeses in the other thread- what type are you looking for? Again continental delis might have them but they may also have a different name for them!
As for Bryan hot dogs they look a little bit like dagwood dog hot dogs- but I am not sure if they make them anymore. Dagwoods are like corndogs.
