You know what has been great about this season so far? No team challenges (knock on wood). Also, the challenges have been pretty open. Just do an evening dress, do a gown for the opera. Make something inspired by this color. And I think that is part of why we are seeing better designs. That and that they designers have experience now. But I also think there is more creativity when they aren't having to do ridiculous things.
LOL at Jarell regarding Kara's dress "...and you make her look like a pregnant cupcake. That's not the business." I'm not a fan either. Weird colors.
Yay - loved Mondo's! Beautiful! Fit the theme so well, without being ugly. And brave use of color too.
Mila - I thought hers was really interesting. I think a bit more time and polish could have cleaned it up a bit too. Looked better in movement walking on the runway then standing there during judging.
Michael C - Not my favorite of his - but it did seem like a good dress to present to DVF. I can't believe she said he needed to call her. Wow, that was almost better than winning the challenge. What a compliment! I felt bad that they kept knocking the color. It looked so different in the workroom than on the runway, much more of an orangey-pink more reminiscent of grapefruit. On the runway it looks just straight pink.
The limited time really did seem to separate the cream of this crop of designers. You could see the weakest designers definitely suffered more with the lack of time.
I would've picked Mondo to win, but I'm loving imagining the looks on Gretchen and Ivy's faces every time Michael C gets top 3 or wins so I'm happy. Totally agree it was time for April to leave. I continue to love the judging this cycle!
Re: Project Runway 1/26
I can't stand Mila. I can't think of a single design of hers that I've ever really liked and really hate her attitude.
Mondo - I still can't believe he didn't win his season, love him.
Michael - I liked the concept but didn't like the execution. It looked very 80's to me.
I agree with the like of no team challenges. I get that they add drama, but to me, I'd rather just see the individual designers do their own thing. I hope they don't have any this season.
I like what they're doing as far as challenges, but really was hoping Kara would go this week. She and April were the bottom this week and haven't shown anything great.
I got turned off by Kara when she did an episode of "All on the Line" with Joe Zee on Sundance as a failing designer that he was trying to help come back. She fought him on everything, did her I'm so stressed out routine, and her I can't do this one for him too. The collection she showed on there last year was the same thing from her original PR season with very little improvement. She was beyond broke according to the show and fought all of the people he brought in to critique her work. I cringed when she said something like, "I hope they take into account that we only had 6 hours" tonight. There are deadlines for Fashion Week. What would she do then?
Michael definitely did a design with DVF in mind and knows how to work for a client. I liked it, but thought Mondo did better.
Isaac is making me crazy as a judge. I love how he hated the orange on Mondo's dress, but was wearing almost the same shade of shirt. I really loved how he got called out on it too.
I wish Mondo would have won. Those colors were perfection.
Michael's dress didn't sit right with me. I don't know if it was the color/shininess of the material, or if it was the sleeves, or what. It seemed too billowy to me, didn't seem to walk very well.
I really liked Mondo's better too. I think Michael C got it though because Miranda Kerr is still breast feeding and the high neckline in the front of Mondo's dress would have made breast feeding very difficult for her. She pointed that out at judging when the designer's were gone. If Mondo had made the deep V in the front of his dress instead of the back or flipped it before it hit the runway, I think he would have won because his would have been just as easy to breast feed in as Michael's dress.
Michael's did seem too billowy and his looked lacked styling to me. Also, the way the color showed on the runway seemed more matronly and less chic. I could easily see DVF in that dress or even the dress in some variation in her line. He took the safe route and just by having the neckline the way it was made it more wearable for the client at the moment giving him the win.
Was "breast-feeding accessible" a requirement of this challenge? I don't recall that being part of it....and don't honestly think that is a reason why Mondo wouldn't have won. That being said, I don't have a clue why Michael won.
Michael's looked like if someone took a satin sheet off their bed and wrapped it around themselves. Mondo's looked really Versace to me, it was ok, didn't love it. Overall nothing really stood out this week. Although I do applaud Mila for not using black for once. I guess I actually kind of liked her dress. I was surprised Jerrell didn't end up in the bottom three actually.

IIRC, she brought up the breast feeding thing as a point AGAINST Michael C's dress because she wouldn't be able to wear a bra to support her large bazooms with that deep plunging neck. Someone suggested tape, and she was like, No. And then when they were dismissing Mondo from the runway, the host (I don't know any of their names but Mizrahi) mentioned that all the ladies wanted the dress.
Obviously, that didn't turn out to be the deciding factor because they went with Michael's dress.
ETA: Oh, and can we PLEASE get something more than 1 day challenges?!! I'm watching a PR marathon on Style right now, and they're talking about Day 2, and I'm all "What's that?" It's ridiculous.
Ok, I thought that was what I remembered too. She *didn't* like Michael's dress as a new mom. And that's why I was confused by Michael winning and her saying she'd be honored to wear his dress. I still see why he won, as I mentioned above, because of the DVF feel it had. But I really could see the model in Mondo's gown more.
I thought Mondo's was best too, but I did like Michael C's. As long as Mondo wins the entire thing I'll be happy.
I want the final three to be Mondo, Michael C, and Austin. It occurred to me last night that I don't like any of the female contestants on this season. Why do they have to be so horrid?

So far this season, I have been underwhelmed by the challenges. In a season with "all-stars" they should be given harder and more intricate challenges. The short challenges, as pp mentioned, only make it a speed challenge. I want to see "turn this donkey into a unicorn" kind of challenges.
April and Kara have been so lackluster that I'm beginning to wonder how they've lasted this long.
Some totally irrelevant, but related, comments: April's gray hair is hideous. I sometimes have to look away when they show Austin with his facial hair. Elisa even being considered an "all-star" is a joke on us. Anthony's one-liners are priceless. Kenley's nasally voice is still annoying.
Mondo is clearly the sole reason for even having an all-star season.
I think Michael is talented, but I really loved Mondo's look sooo much more! He should've won, and Miranda Kerr would've looked great in it. The breastfeeding comment was weird, like are you going to be bringing your baby to this industry event and planning to breastfeed? Not every outfit needs to be versatile like that.
I really don't like Mila, and I don't understand how her design ended up in the top 3. I get that the judges were happy she used color, but IMO the dress was ugly. And the belt she paired it with made it look even weirder. I thought Rami's look should've been in the top instead. And Mondo should've won.
I also didn't like Isaac's comment about the orange, and he was wearing the orange shirt, and shoes! So glad that he got called out on that! I'm not very into orange myself, but Mondo made it very cool, and it worked so well for the challenge. I preferred last week when Isaac was gone for whatever reason. He is annoying.
And I agree about April's hair, I don't get the gray hair on purpose trend for 20-something's. I think it looks terrible.
Pomegranate Margarita
I think Mondo should have won also, Not only did he make a bold choice that managed to look great (and how in the *hell* did he make a caftan figure-flattering!?!) but it met the criteria of the challenge perfectly. And oh my God, I am finding Michael's endless dramatics to be sooooo damn annoying. He's weepy because he's in the bottom, he's weepy because he's in the top, he's practically hyperventilating because he is in the same room with DVF...just pull yourself together, man! Between Michael and Kara's endless stressing out, I just want to smack them both.
I cannot believe April is only 22. That gray hair is doing her no favors. Fashion is obsessed with youth, and she's deliberately making herself look 40?
H and I swore Michael would be in the bottom. WTF was that mess? It was a VS robe. I believe I have one very similar to it, given to me by my grandmother, something she bought decades ago.
Again, the comment was made just to emphasize how huge her boobs were and that not wearing a bra would be impractical. Not that the dress had to have a hooter hider.
Michael annoys me to no end. His designs aren't innovative and aren't all that refined. Plus, yeah, his over-the-top reactions. I was surprised to see him on All Stars. I wish Santino and Chris March were there instead.
The women they picked are terrible. Just send them all home, LOL.
I'm hoping the final 3 are Mondo, Rami, and Austin.
I really liked Anthony's and Rami's outfits for the gelato challenge. I was really surprised. Even Jerell's outfit was better than Mila's shapeless dress and Michael's VS robe. Heck, Anya won last season with dresses like that.
I was pist that Mondo was criticized for using orange. Ummm, hellerrrr, that was the challenge. That's the color of cantaloupes.
Well I think it's pretty clear that Mondo, Austin, and Rami are the "all-stars." Otherwise, it's pretty much "anyone who was available and/or willing to go through this again." There are a lot of other people I'm sure they would have loved to cast, but they probably have moved on and have other things to do that can't be put on hold. I do wish they'd been able to get a couple more talented women back on though.
I really didn't like Michael C's dress. The color was way too bridesmaid for me and did not really seem like a grapefruit.
Mondo's was cute, but I wasn't crazy about it.
I am really liking this season so far. I love seeing great designs and simple creative challenges that allow them to shine.
