Newlywed retreat/ getaway

Hello,

We have been married for almost 6 months and are deeply in love. We didn't do a premarital counselling or anything like that to prepare us on how to handle marriage issues. I was wondering if anyone knows a couples retreat / getaway where we can go through some kind of steps or counselling while also vacationing. Our 6 months anniversary is around valentines day so it would be perfect timing to get away. We live in Louisiana .

Thanks

  • I hear Jason Bateman has some good recommendations.

  • I think "marriage encounter" might be what you would want.  I don't have personal experience.  Google "marriage encounter" for more info.

Marriage Encounter is for couples married 2 years or longer.  Since you've been married for less than a year, they'll probably direct you to Engaged Encounter instead.  We did Engaged Encounter and really liked it.  Although it wasn't much of a vacation... they kept us pretty busy!

  • I've been on several retreats sponsored by various Roman Catholic groups and have always enjoyed them. I did a little investigating before we got married for a weekend retreat and picked one in a beautiful house by the beach. I can only imagine that Louisiana has several Catholic retreat houses. It may take a little investigating to find-out their schedule (men's retreat, woman's retreat, couples), but worth a try. You may have to look online and call. Oddly, I didn't find any of them overly "churchy" either. (But maybe that's because I expect a mass and a little nod to family planning.)
My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.
  • I would do the Engaged Encounter as well. DH and I have been married since last may, but we never got to do one because the closest retreat was at least 5 hours away. I hope we can move to a place that will still allow us to do something like that or the marriage one. I've heard some great things about those kinds of retreats!
