a lot of us made resolutions to read more books in 2012... has anyone read anything worth recommending to the rest of us?
I read Bossypants by Tina Fey and I loved it! & I'm reading Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett now. Both are funny in completely different ways. Tina Fey's book reminded me of Chelsea Handler's books in that it chronicles the funny moments of her life, but Tina also throws in some "woman power" which was refreshing. Good Omens is kind of ridiculous but in a great way. It's about an angel and a fallen angel and how they navigate through modern times during the impending apocolypse. I have been thoroughly entertained so far and had some LOL moments. Gaiman is a great author and I'm fascinated by his writing - Neverwhere is another incredible book if you are interested in something that is kind of "out there".
Re: what are you reading?
I am about to start the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo tonight! I just borrowed it from a coworker.
Good Omens sounds really good, I'm going to have to put that on my list for future reads.
I'm trying to finish up the 1st of the Game of Thrones series....next in line I want to re read The Handmaids Tale.
Yesterday I finished Mona Lisa (a random find that sat on my work desk forever).
The Domestic Dugout
This might be the next book I read! I've had it on my Kindle forever and I just havent gotten around to it. Let me know what you think of it as you get started.
Good Omens is fantastic! I read it last year. Right now I'm reading The Hunger Games and it's so, so, so good!

My husband just finished that whole series. He said the first one was by far the best. He keeps asking when I'm going to read it.

I had Good Omens out from the library but I didn't get very far. It was good, just didn't grab me like the other book I had on the go. It had to go back unfortunately.
I read in January:
Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick (sequel to Hush Hush) It was ok. Not as good as the first one.
Lover Aveged (BDB#7) It was ok. not as good as the previous ones, but better than #6.
I'm doing a bible study with a friend on The Power of a Praying Wife. It's good once you get over chapter 1.
I just started Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater and Lover Mine (BDB#8)

I'm currently reading Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult. Not very far in, but enjoying it so far.
As you can see my from my siggy, I've been reading a lot so far this year!!
I tend to go in waves- wonder how long this one will last.
I made a goal to read 100 books. Mostly this is because I don't have any books for school and normally I would read 12-15 for my classes a semester (about 40 a year) and my own stuff. So 100 is pushing myself.
I have read a few this year but mostly they are theory books so, not something I would typically recommend. If you do like writing, "Writing to Change the World" is great.
I plan to read "Heart of the Matter" as my next fiction book
Last year, I set my goal at 100, but I set it in, like, May, so I didn't make it. This year, I wanted something I knew I could hit, so I picked 50, but I've already read 7 in January, so I may go up to 75 or even 100 if this rate continues.
I've been a bit of a reader this year... and the end of last year. After I got done with my vacation I was just so in the habit of reading.
I read all of the Hunger Games books and I LOVED them
I followed it up with the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books. #1 was pretty eh for me, but I LOVEd #2. I could not put it down, mostly because I really really needed to know what happened.
I'm in that mourning stage right now, because I just finished my book the night before last, I am thinking of reserving Hornet's Nest from the library, and I have another trilogy that Rocky's mom loaned me to read.
We'll end up hand in hand

Just me and you
I recently started The Pillars of the Earth. It is about a family in the 1300's and the father wants to build a cathedral. It is actually fairly intersting even though my description is probably not.
The Art of Racing in the Rain is fantastic!
I read The Help. I am sure everyone has already read though. I was a bit late on that one. If you haven't read it yet you really should, it was awesome.
I also read 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It wasn't a typical Stephen King (or at least I don't think it was I am not really familiar with his work though). It's about time travel and this guy goes back in time to stop the Kennedy assassination and the repercussions that that causes. It's not as hokey as it sounds. I really enjoyed it.
Last year I read about 100 books. I didn't make a challenge or anything that's just what I ended up reading. This year I am going to try and read 150. I am not sure if I can do it though.
I'm currently reading Elizabeth I by Margaret George. I'd just finished Night by Elie Wiesel and Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum, so I need something that's not depressing.
This weekend I'm going to read the first half of Night Circus for my book club.
**Brown** I loved The Art of Racing in the Rain!!! You have to tell me when you finish it!
**OChem** We just did Night Circus for our book club. What do you think so far?
I just started reading The Five People You Meet in Heaven. It's pretty good so far.
I just finished the first book in the Hunger Games. I just started the second Catching Fire. Hubby read all three and can't stop talking about them and pretty much made me read them. I don't mind them at all. They are nice quick reads.
I have a Girl with a Dragon tattoo next after the Hungrr Games have been read

AMJ: I like Night Circus, but I still have no idea what's going on. I'm not even a quarter of the way in yet though.
cayres: I've just added Sarah's Key to my GoodReads list of to-read books.
