I was brushing Maya this morning and noticed the bloody discharge on her back side. Crap! This is bad timing. Faith sliced her paw somehow and had to get 6 stitches, so to keep her from tearing off the bandage and to keep it from getting wet, we've been taking both her and Maya to Raymond's parent's house so that they can be watched while we are at work. Well, Raymond's parents have an intact male Rottie (Mac) that Maya adores to play with. Now we can't have Maya around Mac. And I don't want to leave her home alone because no one will be home to make sure no males get to Maya in our back yard.
Plus the pet expo is coming up and I was going to start taking Maya to the dog park every weekend to get her used to people and other dogs. Now I can't do that because females in heat aren't allowed at dog parks. ::Heavy Sigh::
Re: Maya has gone into heat. Crap!
Anna: I know I'm going to sound stupid, but I've never had a dog and I just have to ask. I didn't realize that there was bleeding involved when a girl dog is in heat. What do you do about the blood? Or is it so light that it doesn't get on anything?

They have doggie panties that you can insert a liner into...hee hee. Today was the first day I noticed the discharge and it hasn't gotten too bad yet. Maya's been good about cleaning herself so far, so I hope it doesn't get that bad. I once had a dog that had a pretty heavy flow and we would find blood spots on the ground. Good thing she stayed mostly outdoors.

Ugh I hated when my dog went into heat, she started a week before she was scheduled to be fixed haha. I was glad that the doctor we use still fixed her even though she was in heat some doctors won't.
A friend of my moms has two big big dogs like St. Bernards or something and the female isn't fixed and neither is the male so they keep the female in the laundry room with towels until she is done. Do you have that option?
Maybe they can do a swap throughout the day. When Maya is inside, Mac will be outside and when Maya is outside, Mac will be inside or something like that.
Brownhenry-we once had that happen to one of our female dogs and she ended up tieing with our male lab (Bud) a few weeks before she was due to get spayed. We weren't concerned because he was supposedly fixed. Well, when we went to pick her up from the vet's, they said she was pregnant! Apparently they didn't fix Bud correctly or something. We felt soo bad. My mom even felt a little faint and had to sit down at the vet's when they told her that they got rid of the puppies =o(

They still spayed her even though she was pregnant? I would think the vet would call and say "hey, sorry but we can't spay your dog. Enjoy the puppies!"
Yeah, we would have preferred that. Those puppies would have been so cute. Lab/Aussie mix puppies. But I guess thier thought was we were spaying her to avoid her from having puppies in the first place. We no longer go to that vet.
