Happy Sunday IN's! :-)

Morning!! :-)

How is everyone today? Hope you're all enjoying your weekends! (Unless you're in the ME, in which case, hope your week is starting out well)!

QOTD: What was the last thing you baked? :-)

Re: Happy Sunday IN's! :-)

  • Good morning! Today was my turn to sleep in, but that got foiled when DH decided it was time for DD to learn that in order for her to get somewhere, she needed to move her legs. Hmm 1) She's only 8 months old adjusted and normal walking age isn't until about 11-18 months, 2) She was obviously unhappy with whatever he was doing. Couldn't he have taken the hint and just did something to keep her quiet while I was trying to sleep???

Now I have to decide whether to rise above petty revenge when it's his turn to sleep in tomorrow (he took the day off).

QOTD: A cake last weekend, but it was from a box mix. The last baked good (excluding things like quiches and casseroles that also include baking) I made from scratch was cinnamon rolls. I need to make them again because they were delicious.

  • Good Morning!  Sunday is my Saturday so today was sort of productive.  I have done the vacuuming and dusting and a menu for the week.  I suppose I could have washed the floors too, but it was too hot to send Delta outside for that long.(it's 32 C, in the shade, at the TOP of the mountain).

QOTD:  A crustless quiche and some bacon.  The last baked good I baked was Sara Lee Sticky Date Pudding (It was what my SS wanted or dessert.

  • Today was not bad.  DH was out until 4:30 this morning at a pub gig with friends, so we had a lazy day.  I put a load of laundry out about noon and DH brought it just before the rain came with the cool change that moved through.  Other than that, I had a Covert Affairs season 1 marathon and tried to stay cool.

QOTD:  I did a baked spaghetti casserole last week, but before that it was a batch of potato chip cookies two weeks ago when DH's friend was over for dinner.  It's been too hot to bake anything.

I have to ask...what are potato chip cookies?

We picked up one of the bench top ovens (Toaster ovens with Masters Degrees) and it doesn't heat up the house at all.  I cook chickens, cookies, quick breads etc.

  • Hola! Back to work for me. I had an awesome weekend :-) Went out Thursday night, and just relaxed the rest of the time. I'm ready for it to be the weekend again!

QOTD: This weekend I made oatmeal raisin cookies, banana streusel cake, and lemon squares for a friend! :-) I was a baking machine :-)

Shortbread cookies with crushed plain potato chips in them.  They turn out like glazed Pecan Sandies.  The potato chips give an interesting texture to the cookie.  You really can't tell the texture comes from potato chips when they are all baked.

This is very similar to the recipe I use:  http://noblepig.com/2008/12/21/how-to-elevate-a-sandie.aspx

  • We just got back from Rome!  Yea... no strike related drama.  And as a double bonus both Lucy (the dog) and I have fabulous new haircuts.

Just cleaning the house today.  Although I downloaded some songs, so maybe I'll finally get cracking on that new year's resolution of getting back to running....

QOTD:  I baked Mountain Dew cupcakes for a coworker (he's obsessed w/ mountain dew).  They pretty much tasted like lemon cake, so not that exciting.  Might bust out the baking stuff to make homemade mac & cheese tonight (it's cold and I'll certainly need to carbo-load for my pitiful run ;))!

DH was out until 4:30 this morning

Mine too, but at a friend's party. I decided not to go as I want to keep M on his bedtime schedule.

M and I just finished breakfast and now he is watching  Princess Mononoke. It's raining today, so I don't think we will do much.

QOTD: I broiled koobideh kababs in the oven last night, does that count? I'm not a baker, the last thing would have been a banana bread or chocolate banana muffins last winter!

  • Morning! I'm excited because DH comes home today, after being away in Switzy for 9-10 days. So I'm doing a light clean (did most of it yesterday) and running to the grocery store so we can just relax together when he arrives.

Other than that, I had a Covert Affairs season 1 marathon and tried to stay cool.

What did you think? It's one of my favorite TV shows to watch when I just want to chill out. It's also one of the few shows that both DH and I enjoy, so we often watch it together.

QOTD: I baked blueberry muffins for brunch yesterday, but it was from a mix. Today I'll be baking banana bread to welcome DH home (oh, and to use up some past-their-prime bananas...).

Those sound terrific.  Do you have a "traditional" recipe or will a Google search be OK?

  • Morning! FI and I both slept in today, which was nice until I started to get antsy (so much to do!). I'm going to spend today reading for the upcoming week and writing out the results of interview-y stuff I've been doing for my alma mater, telling them who to accept and such.

QOTD: Snickerdoodles. That's about as far as my baking prowess extends. Although I'm going to try to make red velvet rice krispy treats today, I saw a blog post about them and have been craving them since. They might end up just being devil's food krispy treats, because I'm having a heck of a time finding red velvet cake mix.

Also, Jenny, whatever is in your sig pic is making my mouth water. They look like pirogis but even if they're not... delicious.

I use a pretty traditional recipe:

    Ground beef or lamb

    chopped onion

    chopped garlic

    turmeric

    salt and pepper

Advieh - which is a mix of spices (cinnamon, rose petals, cumin and other spices)  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advieh

I sometimes add an egg, but that is if I make it on the bbq, so it stays on the skewers

Sometimes I add a bit of bread soaked in water and drained

This guy has a good recipe and how to video: http://kshar.net/kabob-koobideh-video/

It's so much better on a grill, serve with white basmati rice and grilled tomatoes.

  • Hi you all!

We've been working on getting that cabinet that wouldn't fit to fit all day yesterday. It should be able to be placed upright now, and I'm about to go pick up my younger (And stronger) brother so he can help place it upright with DH while I place the 'feet' under it. So it's a productive weekend!

QOTD: Some of my dinners last week were casseroles, so if 'put in the oven'  counts as baked, the very last thing was a chickory, ham and cheese casserole. Otherwise I made a delicious vanilla cake with almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts and a caramelized sugar crust last weekend. It was awesome! (But please don't ask me for the exact recipe, as it was one of those 'just wing it and combine ingredients-cakes'.

  • Morning!

We've been productive this morning.  The last weekend in January we always do our budget for the new year.  Takes a few hours, but makes the rest of the year so much easier.

I've had a sore throat for about four days and am really tired, so I am still in my PJs and DH is studying for the CFA.  Not much going on in the Coffee household, which is really nice actually.

QOTD:  Last week, I made poppy seed bread and I am thinking of making banana bread today.

  • I'm trying to be productive today before my soccer game. I think I'm going to start making a timeline of things we need to get done before the move since we have a lot going on. QOTD: I don't bake lol. I think I made some cookies back in Christmas 2009.

They are pierogies! I'm originally from Pittsburgh, PA which has a big Polish neighborhood so pierogies are super common there (and delicious)! One of these days I will attempt to make some :-)

  • Good morning (little delayed since I'm still on the west coast in the US)!

This weekend has been full of packing for me. Boxing everything up (essentially by myself) is not fun. Especially because I know it's going to sit in storage for at least 6 months, possibly more. First EVERYTHING has to go IN a box then I have to make sure all the boxes are sealed well and nothing is just hanging out. Plus I'm still living here, so I feel like some things can't be boxed, but they really need to be. Bleh. Can't wait till Tuesday! Once the movers get here and take everything to storage I can start looking forward.

QOTD: Last night I made one last batch of chocolate chip cookie dough before packing up my standing mixer. I can't technically say I baked anything though, since so far I've only munched on the dough. Wink

What did you think? It's one of my favorite TV shows to watch when I just want to chill out. It's also one of the few shows that both DH and I enjoy, so we often watch it together.

I have DVR'ed the whole first season when it aired in the US, but things happened and I ended up having to watch it as I was packing up my room before moving to Aus.  I enjoyed it even though I could not pay complete and close attention.  When I saw the first season on dvd on sale here, I had to get it and am now re-watching it.  I do like the series and I love the characters.

I am a bit critical of Christopher Gorham's portrayal of Auggie, but that's my personal indignation at casting able-bodied actors in disabled rolls.  Other than that point, the show is great for de-stressing.  I really like the music used and after each episode, I tend to hit google and iTunes and come away with new albums.  Brandi Carlile's Before It Breaks had me in tears during the episode and Give Up the Ghost is on almost continuous play on my iPod.

I have Season 2 through iTunes and am enjoying it as well -- it's slow going for me as I alternate it with Flashpoint on Monday nights when DH is screaming at political shows.

Do you know if a third season has been announced?
