Yoga mat

I want to buy one... What brand would you suggest? Hopefully it's on amazon and qualifies for prime bc I don't feel like hunting one down in a store.

Tia!

Re: Yoga mat

  • I know you said you don't want to hunt, but if you have a TJ Maxx you can head there. They always have a ton of weights and yoga mats at the ones near me. I just have a cheapo one from Target, so I can't recommend a specific one.

  • you can go crazy with yoga mats but honestly i do yoga a lot and buy whatever they have at tj maxx and/or home goods. i even bought one that was fine at five below once. are you a beginner to yoga or do you have knee or wrist problems? if so you might want to start off with a yoga/pilates mat which has more cushion. at first yoga can be uncomfortable and the extra padding is helpful. as you get better and stronger you won't need it. you can also use one mat on top of another for the same reason. that's what i did first and then transitioned to thinner. good luck and enjoy!

  • Thanks ladies. I did want one a little thicker for wrist support but the idea of using two is a good idea. Thanks! I don't go to tjmaxx often but I can make a stop since its so close to my house.

  • i was at tj maxx last week and they were featuring active wear and exercise stuff for the new year's resolution types so it's a good time to find one there. if you don't want to buy two mats and where you go has mats you can always use theirs for the bottom one and yours on top. i never had wrist problems but when i started yoga those down dogs hurt like a mofo on my wrists. eventually that went away thank god. a good teacher can show you how to do a down dog with blocks which will also help ease some of the pressure on the wrists.

  • also if you get a squishier mat or you double up you may want to step off your mat for balance poses. it's a little harder to balance the thicker the mat is. i would just move off onto the wood floor for tree, etc. when i had a yoga/pilates mat which was about double the thickness of a regular mat.

  • Sweet, thanks for all the 411 MD.

VA, thanks. I think I'll just stop at TJ's on my home from class tomorrow night. It's literally right off the highway down the street.
