My question is what type of stroller do you use for a week long trip? There will be a lot of walking around and wanted to know if a jogging stroller would be too much to take or should I stick with an umbrella stroller? Am I able to check in his stoller, along with the carseat? Do they charge for that or should I check with the airline? We are fyling with Delta.

Re: Traveling with a toddler
We used an umbrella stroller.
DD flew in her carseat, and we gate checked her stroller
We didn't have to pay a dime, but we flew SW. I'd call to confirm how Delta works it
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010

I would gate check, we just flew Delta last week and when picking up luggage both times there were a lot of people whos luggaged ended up completely missing (including 2 carseats) or really damaged (as ours were). They trashed our luggaged and tried to tell us it was normal wear and tear. I do not think so A big gash in the side, the handle completely broken off, a zipper broken and one of the legs broken off. The people with the carseats were given a sorry we will look for it and nothing else.
Delta will give you a car seat to use if this happens. We had one damaged when gate checked and they loaned us one until we bought a new one and reimbursed the cost of the new one.
Continental damaged my Bumbleride Indy Twin and we were basically told oh well, they said we could get a claim report but they will not pay for damages...luckily the stroller store was able to bend the wheel part back straight but it broke about a year later and I can almost guarantee that this thick metal part would not have just snapped on it's own, and it was gate checked. From how on I will not bring that expensive of a stroller with us, we will bring our Chicco C5 to England for DD who will be 3y5m...I would love to travel without one but I am sure we would regret that.
I checked our car seats for free with Delta when he checked our luggage. I always travel with an umbrella stroller. We gate check that when we board the plane. I've never had any issues.
I prefer to travel with an umbrella stroller because it is easier to store. I can put it in a closet at the hotel. It easily folds to fit in a trunk, cab or bus. When we go eat, I can fold it and either put it under our chairs or put it in a corner out of the way.
