Fishy dishes

Lately when we run the dishwasher our dishes come out smelling.  I have read online that it could mean that the filter needs to be changed and to consult the owners manual to locate the filter.  Well, the dishwasher was here when we moved in so we don't have the manual.  Where is the filter typically located?  If it's not the filter, is there anything else we can do to get rid of the smell? TIA!!

ps-it's not our water...our clothes smell fine!

Re: Fishy dishes

  • Check the manufacturer's website.  I think you can find the model number on the door.  If they no longer post it, google it.  There are a few websites that compile all types of owners manuals.
  • You could try running vinegar through it while it's empty instead of dish soap, maybe even more than once. It might help. I lived in a house once where it was required to run vinegar through every so often because it would start to get smelly, mostly because we rarely used the thing.

  • I find that if I do the heated dry my dishes always smell fishy. When I let them air dry they're okay. I hate it so much!
