DH and I are going to try renting out our spare room to travelers, how does it look?

Re: Would you stay here?
My persosonal opinion, No.
If anything is shared...NO.

So here's the thing - I'm not the type of person to use Airbnb.
But if I were - yes! You and your husband look fun and friendly, the room is nice and clean, it has decent storage, a coffee maker, and towels, and it's affordable. So for the target audience you're going after (those who do use Airbnb), I think your advertisement is great. Nothing you can do about the shared bathroom; for anyone who stays in hostels, isn't that common? I've never stayed in a hostel but I think some of them have shared bathrooms? And there are still married couples who travel and stay in hostels, so I could imagine your place would prove to be very inviting.
Hope it pans out - this made me smile because just yesterday my DH went to the Airbnb headquarters to meet with some of their people - glad to see that Airbnb is definitely thriving outside of Silicon Valley.
Very pretty! Nice pictures.
I do agree with PPs, if you don't need to use the downstairs bath, maybe re-label it as a downstairs bath 'dedicated' for renters (so people don't feel funny about leaving makeup/toiletries around).
WRT pets-- I would either go pet-friendly or not. But the absolutely no time alone is tough, IMO. We travel with our dog 98% of the time and while I obviously don't leave her unattended for extreme periods of time, it is, occasionally nice to be able to leave her at the B&B (in our room) while we have a more formal dinner or do a museum tour. Again, it's not an extreme period of time, she's a housebroken adult dog who doesn't chew or bark. If she wasn't, I wouldn't travel w/ her. I think/hope most pet owners are the same-- they won't leave a dog who shouldn't be left alone.
That said, I think a pet-deposit is a better idea than absolutely NO alone time. Trust me, Lucy (our dog) would be fine in our room for a reasonable period of time and I'd rather "bet" a deposit on it than stay somewhere where I felt like I could leave her alone for any amount of time.
Hope that doesn't sound cranky, just trying to provide helpful feedback! Your place looks lovely and wish you good luck!
I might. I've couch surfed, stayed in hostels, guesthouses, b&bs. It would all depend on comparable options, and if I was feeling particularly sociable.
Just some questions I would have as a hypothetical guest.
Would guests have the option to use the kitchen for themselves? Being able to store a bit of milk or wine is usually key on my trips.
Would you permit a crated dog?
Do you have any equipment like snowshoes or skis for them to borrow?
I've stayed in guesthouses in NZ which is more along the airbnb than a traditional b&b style. Some were fantastic, felt like home/family. Others were a little awkward. I think that was mostly personality of the hosts, but also a bit due to layout of the home. It's weird if you feel you're intruding on someone's personal life.
I personally don't mind sharing a bathroom, most of the time, but, again that could be awkward depending on layout. I think I've mostly only shared with other guests, not the owner. H likes sharing it less b/c, um, he uses it more.
Potentially, yes. Of course, it would depend on your competition.
I agree with whoever suggested listing it as a private bathroom downstairs. I think that would be more appealing. Just make sure you, DH, and any personal guests use the master bath when you have customers. Maybe also invest in a couple bathrobes that guests can use between the bedroom and the bathroom to help mitigate the "down the hall" part.
Oh, and I'd never heard of airbnb.com before. It looks pretty awesome. Thanks!
