Asking for "promotion"/position at internship

Hello,

I usually spend my time at the cooking boards, but I've come across an opportunity that I'd love some professional advice on.

At my internship (meetings and events intern) there are two part-timers that are leaving and finishing up their last week. Next time I go in I am going to ask my intern-boss to be considered for the position of one of them (both are event coordinators). Is there a certain etiquette in doing this? When speaking with my intern-boss I would have to include that I am willing to leave my part-time position at the hair salon that I work at for the part-time position with them (while I finish my degree in event management). Should I bring a copy of my up-to-date resume with me? Would anyone be willing to look it over?

This is the first time I am asking for a "promotion"; with my previous experience I've always been offered a promoted position. Thanks in advance for anyone who can offer some guidance!

  • I don't really think there's an etiquette to it. Other than be proactive, which you're doing.

It wouldn't hurt to have a copy of your resume updated, but I wouldn't necessarily bring it with you.

    Sure, I'll look it over

This happened to me at my last job. The next position in my career ladder was opening up because a group of people were all leaving at the same time. I went to my boss and told him I was interested in going for one of the positions, and asked him what I needed to do. I also told him I wanted to do some informational interviews with people in that position so I could see what I was really getting myself into. It got kind of complicated because 2 different people were fighting over which dept I went into, but I stayed out of it. And my boss won :)

They did want a copy of my resume, just for HR purposes.
