Need Valentine's Day Ideas

Does anyone have any V-day ideas they would like to share? I have been thinking about this for a month and can't find anything I think he would like. We are thinking about going to see the Vow. Any suggestions would be wonderful. TIA :)

Re: Need Valentine's Day Ideas

  • We usually settle for some combination of food, entertainment and alone time. Food is usually either a nice dinner prepared at home or take out from one or two of our favorite places. Entertainment can be watching a movie at home or picking out some special chocolate at the chocolate store (not usually on V-day). We don't like to get into crowds too much so we lean towards things that can be brought home.

  • I was think about something at home because I am sure it will be crazy out. If I did something at home I would want something special to cook but I have no idea of something I would like to cook
  • Since we just spent 2k on H's new laptop, we are keeping Valentine's day super low key. We are getting a heart shaped pizza and chocolate covered cannoli from my favorite local pizzeria, a bottle of Jack and having a movie night. It's going to be great.

  • That sounds great. I don't know of any really good places around here. So I am thinking we will stay home and I don't want to get out in all the crowds

Well he got home from the 7 month deployment mid-December, left again mid-January but should (emphasis on should) be home for Valentine's Day. Maybe. Hopefully.

If not, the pizza, cannolis and Jack are all mine.

Well, in the absence of your SO, Jack can sometimes do the trick.  I like to mix it with diet coke and stir it with a straw so it gets all fuzzy and weird at the top.

  • If you want a fancy but really easy and pretty much failproof recipe, this is what I make for H when I need to apologize or otherwise be really nice.

We have no plans, but if they're at home, H had better cook for me for a change.   He may be gone, though.  Honestly, I don't care.  We've been married for 5 years and been together on v-day only a couple times, and twice he was working nights in an exercise.  I think we've only had 1 real vday together, and that was one where I hosted a fancy dinner for my single/single from deployment friends.

  • Valentine's day will be me and the doggies and doing laundry. E has class that night so we will be doing something Monday night or on the weekend before. E's thinking dinner at home and him making something. Which is always fab so Im excited.

  • Sibil that looks and sounds good. I might try it. I have always had trouble making it but it wont hurt to try again. Thanks for the recipe :). E&A I wish DH knew how to cook but we are working on that :)
  • My husband and I have never spent Valentine's day together.  He's been deployed every Valentine's day since we first started dating. If we are lucky, we get a Skype date (depending on his flight schedule).  Last year, the flowers he sent me arrived while we were talking, so that was neat because he got to see me open them.  Usually, I just send him a care package with a lot of valentine's candies and cookies in it for my gift to him.

  • We don't really care about valentines day. Sometimes Dh will get my a nice candy or card or something, but to us it's not really a big deal. I actually think we've only spent one actual V day together, and I truly don't feel bad about it. He has class that night this year, so we prob won't do much. He's told me before not to do anything/get anything bc he doesn't care about it
