Vienna, Austria and Krakow, Poland
Does anyone have hotel recomendations for Vienna, Austria or Krakow, Poland? We are going this summer and would love to hear recommendations (good or bad) for either place.
Thanks!
Re: Vienna, Austria and Krakow, Poland
Vienna - BAD hotel is Hotel Mercure Fleishmarkt

It is directly across the street from a strip club that is VERY loud outside at night. We spent three nights in a row at 3AM listening to someone rev their engine for an hour. Too bad too because the hotel is in an awesome location, very clean, and had awesome service. But sleep at 3AM is very important to me!
In Krakow we stayed at Hotel Amber, which was a short walk to the main square. It cost 370 PLN per night in February 2009. Today that's $115 per night (and I'm sure the price has gone up) so you could definitely find a better bargain. Nice place, though. We also booked our Auschwitz and salt mines tours through them which again, you could find a better bargain on.
Unsolicited advice: There's a bus that goes from Vienna to Bratislava, Slovakia, only an hour away. Salzburg (my fave city ever) should be pretty reachable as well if you've got some flexibility.
We actually ended up staying at the Holiday Inn in Krakow. While it wasn't exactly authentic Polish
it was a very nice hotel in a great location for a great price (or at least it was when we went last year. http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/krakow/krkcc/hoteldetail
You can easily walk to the square and a lot of what you'll want locally. We didn't book anything through the hotel, but all of our tours picked us up directly at our hotel.
Have fun! Krakow is a beautiful city.
