Since it's slow...

I figure I'll share my current vent/dental saga.  For those in 29, based on this, I do not recommend 29 Palms Dental.

I had originally gone there since it was literally a block from where we lived when I first go to California.  Easy for me to find since I didn't really know my way around and I  figured a dentist is a dentist.  Anyway, I had a few fillings, got composites because they were only $23 bucks extra.  NBD.

I spent over a year not going to the dentist.  I know, shame on me.  I had to go in for paperwork on my Marine Corps application.  I figured that I would need some work done but not as much as they said I needed.  They quoted 6 fillings and a $500 procedure not covered by insurance before they would sign my paperwork.  Something seemed fishy to me because I'm 23 and I take care of my teeth so I opted for a second opinion when I got to PA.  My suspicions were heightened by the fact that he considered polishing teeth a cleaning.  No, at every other cleaning I have had they clean my teeth with those picks, then polish, and do that nasty flouride crap.

Yesterday I had my appointment in PA.  The place I chose to go (my old dentist is overbooked because his partner retired and they took over all the patients) offers free x-rays and exam on your first visit...awesome.  So, I told the dentist what had happened previously so he was aware that I had some cavities and needed to look for them.  He saw none on the x-ray, did the exam (double checking every tooth) and found no cavities.  What the muff!?  He also said the only treatment he advised was a regular cleaning and signed my paperwork. Thrilled my paperwork is signed by the way.

Moral of the story, I'm pretty sure 29 Palms Dental is running a scam.  Drilling and filling teeth that don't need it can ruin your teeth.  I'm so glad I got a second opinon.

ETA: When he quoted me for my 6 fillings he did not offer the cheaper material because I already had the white AND the new price was $62 a piece.

  • I've got my appointment next week, here's hoping it's less expensive than I expect! Glad you got yours signed!
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
