Overnight at Miami Int'l Airport?
Hi Bees. We are thinking of doing a cruise from Miami for our honeymoon. Problem is the flight we have to take will arrive in Miami at midnight. We can't get on the boat until the next day, sometime around 10am. So there is 10 hrs between ariving and getting on the boat.
All the hotels we are finding are $120+, which isn't awful, but we wouldn't be getting that much sleep either. Probably less than 8 hrs. Any recommendations where we can find some place to rest or hangout for those hours? We looked into the airport lounges, but it seems you have to be a member to use those. Any other ideas?
Re: Overnight at Miami Int'l Airport?
I've started to see some places popping up *in* airports where they rent rooms by the hour for people who have layovers and whatnot. Not sure if Miami has them, but you might look (I just saw them earlier this month in Atlanta).
Miami has a hotel attached to the airport. Honestly, if that were me, I'd bite the bullet and pay the $120 to get a hotel room just to have some place to stay. Miami tends to A/C the crap out of their airport and I would prefer not to spend a night freezing on the floor. But then again, I rented a hotel room on our honeymoon when we were checking in at 5 AM and leaving at 11 AM, so I clearly prioritize my comfort while traveling...
I wonder if you could find something cheap on hotwire if you wait until closer to your trip.
However, you can buy a day pass to several of the lounges. It's $50, and you can get into American, Delta, or Club America.
For that price I'd just bite the bullet and get a room. No sense in starting out your vacation exhausted.

Just try priceline. A 3 or 3.5 star hotel in the downtown region will get you close to the port, then you could just take a taxi in the morning. The hotel we won (Radisson) even offered a free shuttle to the port. I would start by bidding $80 and add rebidding zones. Check out betterbidding.com for info on how to bid on priceline.
Here's another website to check out:

Not all clubs are open 24/7. The Admiral's Club (AA) and various other oneworld clubs I've been in tend to close at some point and reopen in the early morning, so this isn't a solution for an overnight.
Really, just get a hotel.

Have you checked out sleepinginairports.com? It's generally a pretty good resource for this kind of thing, but it looks like Miami landed in 5th place for the worst North American airport to sleep in last year.

Like others, I would look at the mystery hotel deals on Priceline and Hotwire. Both sites let you specify the area around the airport, and I've used them to book a basic room when I had an overnight layover. You should definitely be able to find something around $80 and potentially even less.
(You can also check out betterbidding.com to find out which hotels are offered and what kinds of Priceline bids are being accepted.)
