Re: vegas again?
What do you want to know about? Hotels, restaurants, attractions? And what's a general budget (either overall or for each individual category)?
I almost booked tickets to fly to Vegas yesterday, because I randomly was like, 'I really want to go to Vegas!' But H had a meeting this morning so decided not to. But all this talk about Vegas makes me want to go...
I hear great things about the Cosmopolitan, which is new, but haven't stayed there.
I'm not sure what you're looking to spend, so here's how I'd break it down based on hotels I've stayed at:
Luxor - did not like it, room was gross and dirty, would not return.
Flamingo - was fine but I stayed there 10 years ago in college. I think the rooms have been renovated; the location is great (very central, across from Caesar's and kitty-corner to Bellagio).
Mirage - stayed here for a bachelorette party - rooms were really nice. One of the girls in the party has a dad who is a high roller there, so it only was $30 a night for us - so definitely good value. Not sure what their rooms usually go for to know whether or not I'd stay there again... location is okay.
Paris - I liked it (stayed 6 years ago, though), but for the money I'd rather stay at the Cosmo or Aria; most weekends when I look at hotels, I see they're comparably priced.
Palms - Nice hotel, and we got a suite (for free!), but being off the strip really sucked. If you don't want to be on the strip, though, it's a good option.
Four Seasons Vegas - pretty quiet (tucked into Mandalay Bay), often very competitive pricing for a Four Seasons. You get access to the Mandalay Bay pools (or at least I did when I stayed there).
If I were to go now and book, my preference of hotels would be:
1. Cosmopolitan (great location, spacious rooms, new)
2. Wynn (nice rooms, but not the best location - too far down the strip)
3. Aria or Mandalay Bay (MB has better facilities; Aria has better location)
4. Venetian Palazzo (all-suites hotel; the Venetian itself is underwhelming)
5. Not sure... probably the MGM Grand? I find the Bellagio and Caesar's to be very over-priced for what they offer...
In the mid-range hotels, I'd look at the Mirage (they recently re-did their rooms), the Flamingo, maybe the MGM Grand? They won't be cheap, per say, but they won't be as expensive as the ones listed above.
Stay away from NY, NY (never stayed there but NEVER heard a good experience about it), Excalibur (same as NY NY), Luxor, and the Imperial Palace (DH stayed there before I met him - sounds ghetto-fab).
HTH!
i could go on and on and on about vegas-- you should just call to ask me..
but-- knowing your budget, and situation, flamingo or bally's will get you the most bang for your buck that is a great location, clean enough, and inexpensive enough.
