Has anyone seen Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close yet?

DH and I are going to see it tonight, and wondering if it's good.  We love Tom Hanks, even though I know he's dead in the movie.

  • I read the book first and then saw the movie. Didn't love either. I think Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock will help sell tickets, but they are not really main characters.
  • I just saw it this afternoon.  I didn't hate it, but didn't love it either.  It is very cloying and manipulative with emotions.  The acting is good pretty much across the board.

  • I loved the book and liked the movie. My H loved the movie. The acting was fantastic. It was very sad, though, so take some tissues.
  • I liked it. I definately teared up a few times, so grab napkins when you buy popcorn lol.

  • I did not read the book but saw the movie and really liked it.  It played out differently then I thought but really enjoyed it.
  • The review on my local radio station was that the use of 9/11 was not needed. The husband/dad could have had a heart attack or something. Just seemed like 9/11 theme over-ran the movie. NOT MY REVIEW:local radio review!!!!!

I agree with this. It could have been any unexpected death. It didn't have to be 9/11.

Is the book set around 9/11?

    Agree.

  • The book is about a child who loses his father on 9-11 and how he copes with his grief. So I guess I don't really understand the criticism.

Thanks.  I was wondering if they just threw that in there for added emotional value or if it really was part of the book.

Like I said, I heard the review and know people were put-off. I didn't know it was based on a book, and apparently the radio review guy didn't either.

  • H and I loved the movie. I also teared up a little in some scenes!
