Changing BC pill...any suggestions?

Hello :) I had previously took Yaz for almost a year and a half and never faced any problems (stopped taking it right after my wedding Oct.2010)... I have been married a little over a year now and I am looking for a new BC pill - I have read and know of a person who was completely healthy and had a stoke while taking Yaz...

In the time I took it I never felt any discomfort or anything (I had a surgery in Dec. 2009 and was checked for blood clots, so I know I was fine).

I have heard of some Generic types of BC like Ocella, but wanted to see what works for some or any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Changing BC pill...any suggestions?

  • Stroke and blood clots are risks with any BCP, but it's a very tiny risk.  That risk is increased if you are over 35 and smoke.  If Yaz worked for you, I wouldn't hesitate to go back on it.

That said, I'm on Ocella, which is generic for Yasmin, and have never had any problems with it.  I did try Seasonalle for about two months because I loved the idea of only getting my period four times a year, but I ended up having nonstop breakthrough bleeding for three weeks, so I switched back to Yasmin.

  • I used the NuvaRing for 6 years. It's great, because you put it in and forget about it for 3 weeks.  Take it out, wait a week, and put a new one in.  No need to remember to take a pill everyday! :)

  • I just started Seasonique this year and I love it because you only have 4 periods a year.  It's not for everyone though; some people have trouble with frequent spotting.  But I would say it is worth a try.
  • I've used ortho-tri cyclin lo and didn't have any problems.

thanks so much for the feedback =)

  • I was also on Yaz but I switched because It was $85 a month and It was just to much! My doc switched me to "Sprintec". I didnt notice any changes in how I felt or my cycles or anything...
