Addressing a Friend's Insensitivity

I'm not sure if I should bring this up to her in person or not. The other day one of my good friends posted this as her facebook status: Not everyone should wear leggings especially to the gym!

I was pretty offended by that. (the post had absolutely nothing to do with me, nor was it directed to me in any way that I can think of) I'm struggling with trying to lose weight, and my feeling is f*ck you if you don't like what I wear to the gym, at least I'm there and trying to do something positive for myself.

She lost 20lbs about 2 years ago and ever since then she's beyond judgmental about everyone else: what they eat, what they wear, how often they work out. It's gotten to the point where I only order salad when I go out to dinner with her because I'm afraid of being judged for getting something else.

Do I take a deep breath and let it go as not my issue, or should I say something?

Re: Addressing a Friend's Insensitivity

  • I think I'd let this one go. While I'm sure she's annoying as hell due to her new found confidence (based upon what you described), I feel like there's worse things she could say that would be worth getting upset about. I wouldn't waste your breath or time on this one.

Oh and eat what you want around her. If she says something about what *you're* eating/wearing, that's when it's time to speak up and tell her to f*ck off and mind her own business.

  • Thanks, Dani! I was pretty sure I was overreacting. Deep breath it is.

  • I agree with Dani, let this go but eat and do what you want and if she wants to say something specifically to you about what you're doing then tell her where to send those comments!
