Valentine's Day destinations

I need your help, ladies!  I want to plan a trip for myself and DH (just a weekend trip) for the weekend before or after Valentine's day.  We've done Paris a few times and aren't really interested in going back, but I could use some recommendations for places to go within 3-4 hours from Eindhoven.

Thoughts?!

Re: Valentine's Day destinations

  • I really loved Prague, especially in the winter. I found it very romantic. I don't know how far that would be for you.

  • Had to google map where you are, my geography is shocking.

What about Bruges/Brussels? Is flying out?

  • Pitt - flying isn't out, but it would have to be a "leave Friday after work, return Sunday" kind of flight.  I don't want to take any vacation days for this.

Brugge was on my initial list...it's an easy drive!

I think you should go to Brugge, it's super pretty and seems like it would be a good place for a couple days. We were just there for an afternoon during a weekend in Brussels. It was super touristy but the main square was cute. If it's an easy destination, that makes sense to me.

  • Have you been to Luxembourg?  Seems like a reasonable drive.

This would be a lot easier of I had a list of options! :)

  • If you can get a good flight, Naples is fabulous-- it's got me, pizza, and my beautiful pup... who could ask for anything more ;)?

That said, closer to you, I'd 5th Bruges... so lovely AND the best V-Day chocolate ever!!  In all seriousness, Bruges is lovely and I also like Lille, FR (maybe 45mins south).

  • What about Heidelberg? According to Google maps, it's just under your four hour limit. There's a lovely castle there, you can do river cruises, and walking around the Aldstadt is lovely and relaxing. Overall, I found it to be a scenic, romantic city.

If you wanted, from there you can also easily do a spa day in Baden Baden--nice for a weekend to relax. There are also quite a few opportunities for hiking in the area, if you like that sort of thing.

  • Can I ETA?

I don't know that it's particularly romantic and it's probably more like a 5hr drive, but I think Copenhagen would be an awesome place to visit.

Disclaimer:  I've never actually been to Copenhagen (or Denmark, for that matter), but I have seen the fabulous Michael Frayn play.  It's got little to do with tourism and less to do with V-day, but still, I wish I was close enough to do a long weekend in Copenhagen!

  • what about spa, belgium?  You could go to the spa!  That sounds romantic to me :)
  • Thanks ladies!  I'm thinking that we'll probably stick to Belgium, since it's so close.  We've been to Brugges before, but that's ok...it's been awhile (a few years, at least), and I could totally look into Spa as well.  We are planning a trip to Luxembourg at some point, but more so to visit the fabulous Mouse!

As for Heidelburg...we've been before and I absolutely love the castle!  Haven't been to Copenhagen before, but we did go to Norway and loved it, so Copenhagen might be an option too!

     VA - we've not done Naples...hmmm...I wonder if there's a RyanAir flight?

    Thanks for the help ladies!!!
