Need advice for making crib rail teething cover

I wanted to make something to cover DD's crib rails before she started to chew on them.  I don't sew, but have made some things using stitch witchery instead that turned out good.

I was thinking of getting some fabric & using the SW to "hem" the sides.  Most cover I've seen have the ties (like bumpers do) but I don't think those would be possible without sewing, so I thought to maybe use velcro.

Do you think this would work if I attach various pieces along the fabric to secure it around the rail?  Is there a stronger velcro so DD couldn't easily tear it off?  Any suggestions gladly accepted!!

Re: Need advice for making crib rail teething cover

  • This is what I did. It's not fancy in any means for it's been very effective

I bought a yard of felt and cut a strip about 6 inches wide and the same length as the crib rails. Then I folded the strip hot dog style and then put it over the rail. With the left over felt I cut into smaller strips to tie around the rail and felt leaving the knot on the outside so LO couldn't mess with it. I cut the ends off of the ties so LO wouldn't have anything to pull on. It's been on there for almost a year now and hasn't unraveled or anything

  • Thanks for the suggestion...that seems pretty easy!

  • I have seen no-sew ones made from fleece.  You cut a long wide strip and then cut 1" strips a couple inches on each side.  Then you use the strips to tie around the rail.  It makes a cute fringe effect too!

Holy cow! That looks like it takes about 1000X less work than the ones I sewed for my crib. Don't get me wrong, I like mine, but that looks much quicker!

  • Thanks, I may just try that no sew one if I can find some fleece to match her bedding!  I think that'd be easier than my idea.
