HR Vent/Tax Question

I apologize in advance for the vent but I am so extremely frustrated with my HR at the moment.  I just received my W-2 and it has my maiden name on it.

I called HR and was transferred three times.  Each person saying "Oh well let me transfer you to so and so and they will be able to help you."  And then they just blindly transfer me without giving the person who answers the phone a heads up as to what the call is about.  The final time I get transferred, it ends with a voicemail.

The second to last person I talked to said it must be my fault because I didn't update my information with HR.  I calmly explained that I did update HR as soon as I changed my name.  "Well it's more than just letting us know your name changed.  We need a new copy of your SS card, a copy of the marriage license, etc."  I told her I hand delivered all of this information back in June.  And I went on to explain that all of my paystubs have been correct since the name change etc.  After getting through to her that I did do everything I was supposed to, she says "Oh well let me transfer you to so and so" and then she just blindly transferred me without making sure the new person was actually at my desk.

It's so beyond frustrating.  I get that mistakes happen and things fall through the cracks.  I don't even know if this is a big deal or not and I wasn't even all that upset before I called.  But the fact that no one was able to assist me and just kept passing me on to the next person was just ridiculous.  No problem solving, no "let me investigate this and get back with you."  UGH!

Re: HR Vent/Tax Question

  • I was trying to respond to this earlier, but the Nest was freezing up on me.  I'm sorry you're dealing with this, that is crappy!  Clearly they didn't update their records when you submitted your info before.

FYI, they have until February 28 to fix any problems with W-2s, so definitely be persistent.....they should have gotten it right the first time!

  • It won't be an issue when it comes to your taxes.  The IRS goes by your Social Security number not your name.  So as long as they have the correct SS# on your W-2 then you have nothing to worry about.  Just file your taxes as normal.

Thank you so much!  DH and I just want to get them done as soon as possible.

@Mardoll - I will definitely stay on top of it and thanks for the info on the deadline!

This is what I was going to say, but the nest was freaking out this afternoon.  But yeah, the good news is, it's all based on ss#.  My student loans are still in my maiden name (they are such a pain to change) and it has never been a problem.  But I would definitely keep after them about it.  At least that way it will be fixed for next year!
