Hi All! I know many of you have built homes in the past. Would any of you be willing to share your approximate price to build your home and the rough square footage? If you would prefer to e-mail me, my e-mail is sydlc88 at aol dot com.
We will soon be getting a quote from our builder who we love, and know does quality work. I don't know what that price will be but we got a price a year ago before we decided to hold off and I felt like the price was a little high for what we are asking for. I would love some way to gauge if this is what everyone is paying.
If you are willing to share (I love you!) could you also tell me if the price you are sharing included the cost of your lot or if it stricly the price of the home? TIA!
Re: Home Building Costs
A lot is going to depend on your finishes but I suspect most would be similar to what we used. Granite in the kitchen/bathrooms. Wood floors in 3/4 the main level. Carpeted bedrooms. Wide floor mouldings and window mouldings. Stainless kitchen, white cabinets, island. The one thing that is different about our home and that will drive up the cost is that we have a lot of angles. Stright lines are way easier to build, resulting in less cost. Also arch top windows cost more and the company that you get your windows from will make a difference by a few thousand.
Without giving away exact prices/size, I can say that we paid $.82 per square foot. We loved our builder because he had a standard set of contractors but he was okay if we shopped around on our own for better prices. That was one way we were able to keep costs under control. We actually came in under budget which is unheard of. lol!
Oh and that's the price of the home. Not the lot.
The price per square foot is a great way to share without getting to specific, thank you!
You paid less than $1/square foot? Am I reading that right? Or is that $82/square foot? Maybe I'm miscounting how square footage is calculated but ours will be somewhere between $185 and $94 per square foot. I'll know more once we next meet with our builder.
lol! Wow I was having a brain block there. Yes, move that decimal point. lol! $82/sq ft. So yes, less than $100/sq ft. Sorry about that.
Also I think the typical cost in this area is about $100 sq/ft.
Okay, thanks! For a second I was going to jump ship and immediately call your builder! I really appreciate you sharing the information!
We paid approx $127 per sq ft - that is for the upstairs sq footage as we didint finish the basement. obviously some of those costs went towards items in the basement (foundation, drain for future bath, etc). although we have nice finishes we certainly don't have top of the line...
Thank you ladies, this helps immensely! I feel more comfortable with the numbers he has given us in the past. We will have nice finishings, though not top of the line. Plus there is an added expense of geothermal and a significant amount of excavation work on the lot to prepare for future swimming pool/multi level patio projects that adds cost to our project without adding square footage.
I really appreciate the sharing and I can report back to others considering building once our builder gives us the final quote on our project here in the next few weeks.
