I need a new pair of fabric scissors for sewing. When I started sewing I bought a cheap pair and this weekend when I was using them they really started to hurt my fingers. I realized I need a pair of good scissors for fabric cutting. Any recommendations/brands/things to look for from some of your more experienced sewers??? I don't want to spend $100 on a pair of scissors but I'm willing to invest a bit for a pair that will last and will be comfortable.
thanks!
Our little hippo was as impatient as mom!
Hoping for a full 40 weeks!!
Re: Scissor help
I use a rotary cutter and self healing mat to do 99% of my cutting of fabric these days. My hands hurt less than they did when I was using scissors.
I have two Olfa cutters. a 60mm that is good for straight lines or gentle curves and a 28mm that is better for everything else.
I received a pair of Mundial dressmakers scissors for Christmas that are heavy, but the sharpest scissors I've ever used. Since I don't use them much I can't attest to how they sharpen back up and last, but I'm really happy with them.
For my little scissors I keep near my sewing machine I have a pair of fiskars micro tips that I like and a pair of pink Westcott sharp tip scissors I bought at Walmart. I like them both well enough.

I find that I gravitate toward the scissors that are the most comfortable to use, whether or not they are the sharpest ones. I have kind of large hands/long thin fingers, and find most scissors uncomfortable to use.
I have a variety, so that I always have the right scissor for the job, but I only have a few that I actually like...a couple of different Mundial shears, a giant/scary/sharp pair of fiskars and some kind of reasonable off brand ones from JoAnns with a soft grip handle.
My business partner has some wonderfully sharp Ginghers, but I hate them because they hurt my hand.
