Do you have coupons where you live?

No, coupons here. :( Or at least, I have never come across them. They have sales here at the supermarket but individual companies never send out coupons.

Re: Do you have coupons where you live?

  • No coupons in Norway.

Someone once told me that they're illegal under the fair pricing and consumer protection laws. I'm not sure if that's true, but I've heard Norwegians complain (regarding online purchases from US websites) that coupons make it too hard to price compare.

  • Nope, no coupons, sometimes you can get a rebate on things, but that's always made to be an insane hassle.

If there are manufacturer promotions (which in the US would be coupons) stores just deduct those promotions themselves, get the discount and just put items on sale (which then happens at every store, so the price differences stay the same.)

  • I don't know that I would consider them coupons, but in the back of my Woolies mag there are "vouchers" for certain products.  So it would be an extra $.15  off the Ajax cleaner but not any other cleaners.  The vouchers are sponsored by Woolies, not Ajax and can be used as many times as you want during the promotion period.  CoOupons you need to surrender at the time of purchase.

  • No coupons to speak of here in the UK. Supermarket and drugstore loyalty coupons are popular (like accumulating points to redeem against things).

The most annoying trend at the drugstore and supermarket is 'Buy 3 for the price of 2' or 'Buy 4 for the price of 3', etc. which I find so annoying because I am often carrying the shopping home by hand and don't want 4 bottles of juice nor do I have space in my fridge for it!

I agree with all of this. Although I get sucked into that sort of thing far too often so we have piles of diet coke now sitting in our kitchen since there's no where to put it and it was on sale. I'm only a couple blocks from the grocery store but I had to stop halfway home to rest my arms - liquid is so heavy!

  • No coupons here, although stores do have specials or sales on certain items for which they put out a weekly "catalogue" (basically the sales ad you'd get in the Sunday paper).

  • The only coupons I get are from the loyalty programs- like 5 pounds off of 40, which is a nice one. Or "coupons" for extra points, which are weird but add up.

That said, there are vouchers for restaurants. My favorite is a 2-for-1 deal at this chain Italian restaurant that lets us get a nice dinner for less than 10 pounds.

(I don't have a pound key on my computer and I'm lazy, sorry).

Um, I have often used coupons in store to buy things cheaper or get for free. There are websites you can download and print them from (mostly manufacturer coupons) or you can get them in the 'instore' magazine.

Huh. Add this to the long list of things I thought I knew about living in the UK that was totally wrong. I really wonder when I'll actually figure out this country! Thanks for the link :-)
