Ireland itinerary...Recs please

Below is the itinerary for our trip to Ireland in a few weeks. We are going with a graduate student group that we are alumni of. I would love to have recommendations of places to eat, drink, shop or see along the way. We love to make the most of our trips. We can sleep when we get home!!

Ireland ? Spring Break 2012

 

DAY ONE ?

Depart on overnight flight to Shannon, Ireland

 

DAY TWO ?

Shannon/Killarney.

 

Visit the Cliffs of Moher. 

 

Continue on to Killarney via Abbey Dorney

 

Check in the Riverside Hotel Kerry or similar for your two night stay in Killarney. http://www.riversidehotelkillarney.com/

  

DAY THREE -? Killarney.

Full day guided tour of the Ring of Kerry..

 

We will visit the remote towns of Cahirciveen and Waterville and return through the colorful village of Sneem.

 

Overnight in Killarney.

 

DAY FOUR -  ? Killarney/Cork City

Depart Killarney by motorcoach.

Tour Blarney Woolen Mills facility and meet with logistics and marketing managers.

 

Walk through the grounds and climb the steps of Blarney Castle to kiss the fabled "Stone of Eloquence (Blarney GAB)."

 

Continue on to Cork City.

Check in to the Montenotte Hotel or, similar for your two night stay in Cork City.

DAY FIVE -? Cork City

Full day guided tour of Kinsale and Cobh. 

Overnight in Cork

 

DAY SIX -  ? Cork/Dublin

Depart for Dublin via Waterford City..

 

Visit the Waterford Crystal Factory.

  

Enroute to Dublin we will visit the monastery at Glendalough (The Valley of the Two Lakes) an hour south of Dublin.

 

Arrive Dublin.

Check into the Trinity Capital Hotel for a four-night stay in Dublin.

DAY SEVEN - - Dublin.

 

Student group tours of:

1. The Book of Kells at Trinity College;

 

2. St. Patrick?s Cathedral.

 

3. Guinness Storehouse at St. Jame?s Gate

 

4. Kilmainham Gaol

 

Dinner Cruise (9 pm ? 1 am)

La Peniche on board Barge Riasc

 

 

DAY EIGHT -? Dublin 

Free day ? hop on hop off tour to be used at your leisure

OPTIONAL - evening Ghost Bus Tour

 

DAY NINE -? Dublin

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Free Day 

 

DAY TEN? Dublin/Belfast

Depart Dublin by motor coach travelling to northern Ireland.

Visit the Giants Causeway, 

Continue to Belfast.  

 

DAY ELEVEN -? Return to US

Full Irish breakfast at hotel.

Check out of your hotel.

 

Transfer to Belfast International Airport.

Arrive in US mid-afternoon.

 

 

Re: Ireland itinerary...Recs please

  • In Dublin, we liked Gallagher's Boxty House in the Temple Bar area (can get crowded, so try to get reservations or go at an off time) and for lunch we really liked Queen of Tarts, which was kind of near Christ Church....there are two locations in that general area.

  • Hmm.  I was in areas near where you're staying, but I didn't actually stay in those cities.  i.e., we stayed in Kinsale to see Kinsale & Cobh, rather than Cork.  When we visited Killarney National Park and surrounding area, we stayed in Kenmare.  Generally, smaller towns rather than major cities.

    Dublin is going to be pretty insane on 3/17!
