New to it all

Hey everyone, so hubby and I have been stationed at Fort Benning for about 6 months now. It's nice here and ive made pretty many friends along the way. Still looking for a job and now hubby and I are TTC our first. All of this is new and exciting and yet scary and unknown. Any advice on ANYTHING would be great! Thanks in advance :)

Re: New to it all

  • Since everyone else is being rude i'll start:

  • Welcome to the board!

LOL I do want one!! Where do I look??

Im prior service as well, I was in the National Guard but things are very diferent now then what they were back then..

  • Hi Brandie, my DH is ADA?? (not sure all the abbrevations yet) I just finished with a degree in medical billing and coding. I have two furbabies as well (Boston Terriers 1 1/2 and 7 months) Hubby and I are currently TTC. I guess I have questions about everything lol. The military is very different from what it used to be. How do things work with babies and the military? Will my husband be gone ALL the time. What are deployments like. I have TONS of questions... :/
  • AD= Active Duty. AF= Air Force. :)

I love Bostons!! They are so sweet.

I can't say I have any good information for you about children with the Military, except that it would be good to find your FRG Officer (Family Readiness Group) and get involved with some of the spouse activities on base. You will get a ton of base-specific info from them.

We also have a FAQ link, some of the girls here have it in their siggys... It has great general information.

  • Yeah for more Bostons! We have a Boston, Smudge.

I'm Marni, my DH is Army EOD. We've been married for five years and have a 2.5 year old son. I'm a SAHM. We are PCSing to Germany in six weeks.

If you aren't taking them already, get some prenatal vitamins. And, read up on Folic Acid, it is especially important in the first trimester.

As for deployments, it varies on how often they occur and the location. My motto is hope for the best but prepare for the worst. And, when life gets difficult, embrace the suck.

I think she was being sarcastic?  That's what I thought after her ACU purse comment anyway.

Hi OP.  I'm Kristen - work and volunteer part-time.  H is AD AF.  No kids.  One large dog.

  • Hi! I am Joyce and I am a SAHW. DH is AD AF. We are in Florida. No fur babies or human babies yet. There is a glossary so if you see something your confused about, it can help make sense of it. Its located under My Boards. Welcome to the board :)
  • Hi and welcome.  There is a button in my siggy that will take you to the MN FAQ page.  There is a ton of info there.  There is also a link at the top of the board concerning OPSEC and PERSEC.  I'm sure you are familiar with both, but a refresher is never a bad thing.

I'm TX.  I am former USAR.  I was an MP for 6 years.  DH is AD Army.  We live in Savannah with our 4 kids.

I agree with Marni about taking prenatals now. When a BFP occurs, you'll call your PCM. They will have you come in for another test and then set you up with an OB.  You probably won't have your first appointment until around week 10.

  • Hi, I'm Ojo.  My husband and I are both AD AF.  In four years of marriage, we've lived in five houses, accumulated three dogs, he's deployed twice, I've deployed once, and we have two babies on the way.

How old are you and your hubby?  How long has he been in?

    Twin boys due 7/25/12
  • Welcome! I'm Melissa and my husband is AD Army. We have a 6.5 month old little girl and 2 cats. We actually just moved to Ft. Benning last week.

People have already given you a lot of good advice. Stick around because the ladies on here are very helpful!

Hubby is 28 and I'm 27. He's only been in for a year, with two more to go.

Thank you to everyone else for all the intros and advice. Ive starte taking my prenatals now just need to figure out that "special" time of the month to concieve...

  • I highly suggest reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and try lurking on the Getting Pregnant board over to the left.  The book teaches you how to identify that "special" time to knock boots.
