I'm getting ahead of myself here, but I'm wondering - when you move into a new house, is the cost of changing the locks hidden somewhere in the closing costs, or are you responsible for that, as the new owner?
Is this a spendy thing?

Re: Changing locks
You're definitely responsible.
We had all our locks re-keyed instead of replacing them. I think there were 5 in total and I want to say it cost around $90 - $100.

We were responsible. We actually only got keys to 2/3 entry doors, so the first thing we did the night we closed was change the doorknobs.
ETA: we bought the doonknobs at Home Depot and it cost maybe $70.
