The bank accepts our offer and the listing agent told our agent who then told us it was a go. We got a call tonight saying the listing agent got an offer that was higher than our and since the seller (bank) never signed the contact they have to weight in that offer. We are sending in a counter offer but we are not hopeful.
I k ow this happens to a lot of people I just feel completely let down and dragged around. Our offer was accepted just under a full week ago.

Re: I feel screwed
That sucks. I'm sorry. That's a really big letdown. Your house is out there, even if this wasn't the one. If the bank accepted a week ago and still hasn't signed the papers you can bet they were dragging their feet in case a better offer came in.
I don't blame you, what an emotional roller coaster. Good luck!

If the house was a foreclosure, this isn't necessarily true. When we bought, we were told right up front that it took the bank a minimum 10 working days (so two weeks, basically) to sign the contracts. This could be an unfortunate case of bad timing. Still sucks, though. But the right house is out there, you just have to be patient! Good luck!
Thanks guys. We put in a counter offer even if it's just for our mental health to be able to say we didn't give up. And if the other offer doesn't get a loan or something I guess it falls back on us.
I just feel mislead being first time homebuyers that our realtor just assumed everything was done when it wasn't and never told us otherwise. We even had the inspection over the weekend that she has now offered to pay for if we don't get accepted so that shows that the fault was on her end.

Our realtor advised us if we decide to offer on a short sale to prepare ourselves for a lot of waiting and uncertainty. It seems like banks just take forever to decide on these things. And I can tell you from dealing with some banks on the legal end that decisions have to go through several different people/departments, so that is a big cause of the hold up.
I hope it all works out for you!
Buying a home is one of the most stressful things in life. It's hard when you fall in love with a place enough to make an offer and then not get it or it's in question. Just keep in mind that what is meant to be, will be and there isn't a lot you can do about it. There's probably a much better home out there for you that you just haven't found yet. I home it all works out for the best. Keep your chin up.
