Make her stop. Duct tape allowed.

You know those people who are the movies and never shut up? Everything triggers a comment, observation, or the need to tell a short story from their life. This is how my mom is with life. She.just.won't.stop. Constant plug into her inner monologue but with absolutely no filter. Aaaaaaaargh!

More updates later. I just really needed to get something out since while around her I'm doing my best to keep my mouth shut.

  • Is she staying with you?

Sorry you're having to listen to that chatter...I'm sure it's not relaxing for you right now!   Good luck keeping your mouth shut!

  • Ok, got ten minutes of silence and my head is doing better.

The good: She is doing great interacting with BabyD and LittleGirl. She timed her sleep on the travel so getting over jet lag hasn't been too bad. She has managed to be ok washing light dishes (plates, tupperware, utinsils). I had appointments on base for LittleGirl one morning so dropped her off at the salon for the morning. She came out refreshed and sporting a good haircut that will be easier to manage with her hands. Her hair hasn't looked this cute in a long time.

The bad: I knew about her right wrist still healing from being broken, but I didn't know that her left wrist was still so weak from carpal tunnel surgery five months ago. Or that on her right wrist she can barely move the fingers. She is so limited on both hands (on top of her other issues) that there is very little she can actually do. Makes me sad because it's so bad that I couldn't leave the kids with her alone for more than an hour. Wouldn't be safe. She may drive me up the wall after a couple days but I want her to be able to enjoy her grandkids and for them to enjoy her.

Yup, she's staying with us. At least DH is back from travel and adds an extra adult into the mix in the evenings. When it's just me, her comments are unfiltered. When someone else is there she tends to think beforehand. Even is she says the same kind of comment the delivery is better.

  • That sucks. When I talk to my mother on the phone, I usually have something else around to do, so that while she goes on and on about "We had so-and-so over for dinner. And then your dad and I went up to Greenwood to buy a new doorknob for the door to the upstairs hall closet. It came loose a few weeks ago, and we've been meaning to replace it. They don't sell the same kind of knob that we used before, so we're probably going to have to widen the hole a little bit. They can never seem to keep things standard. That's why I usually buy a few spares up front. Do you remember when we were remodeling the..."

I am shaking from laughter. I know EXACTLY how this conversation goes.

  • Ha! I have to be careful though, my mom catches me when I try to do something else. If she hears the slightest click of the keyboard she says, "Who are you chatting to?"

So instead I got a bluetooth and I call her when I'm doing dishes or getting dinner ready. She doesn't mind when I do that.

That is fukcing hilarious!  It sounds exactly like my dad (except his stories revolve mostly around people I don't know).

    ROTFL! This, exactly!

Except with her here I can't distract myself with something else. Like being in constant "caught" mode.
