Hunger Games trilogy (spoilers)

Ok, I just finished Mockingjay at lunch and I have to talk to someone about it. If you haven't read the whole series, there are spoilers below.

First, I am sad that it is over, but moreso, I am really disappointed. I guess the ending just isn't what I thought it would be. And of course I am bummed she chose Peeta over Gale. I guess I was just left with this feeling that Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch were left living in exile in 12. I kinda feel like the author wrapped things up too quickly, like she couldn't think of more, so lets just hurry this up and finish.

What did you think?

Re: Hunger Games trilogy (spoilers)

  • Agreed.

I am ok with the choice of Peeta, but I completely missed them having sex on the beach earlier in the games (right? that was alluded to in Mockingjay? I think I missed it because i read them overnights in August, hah).

My big beef was the last 1/3 of Mockingjay was so disappointing to me. I totally agree with your summation. It was just "crap. Snow's dead. Got to end this now".

  • I agree with this. Although I was always Team Peeta, I feel like all of a sudden they were happy and married, the end. I felt it was rushed, too. That said, I still loved the series.

I'm pretty sure Katniss and Peeta didn't have sex on the beach. I think they just had a make-out session which made her hot and bothered....

  • Oh yes, overall, I loved the series. And when I think about it, I get how Peeta was the right choice for her: they complimented each other, like he always knew what to say, when she didn't; they are both sort of "damaged goods" now and only they know what the other one really went through and could relate. Still, I was Team Gale.

I don't think they ever had sex, just romantic moments. Although I actually thought once that they alluded to them having sex on the train in the 2nd book. I think I was reading too much into it though.

See it was somewhere in the 3rd book i think that there was a reference to "everyone saw what happened on the beach" and I assumed that I missed them having sex. I must be reading into it too much.

  • I loved the first two books but the third disappointed me greatly.  I agree with you that it seemed very rushed.  I felt that it was missing a lot and ended much too quickly.  I guess it didn't have as much substance as the other two.

I don't remember any sex references so I can't elaborate on that.

I was so sad when Katniss' sister died!  That was so horrible.

  • I am in complete agreement about the Mockingjay. Overall I completely LOVED the series and actually listened to it on audio shortly after reading it because I liked it that much. But the 3rd book fell short to me. I expected so much more from it and I feel like it was wrapped up much too quickly. There were so many things that we missed out on seeing but were very briefly explained.

Ditto what Amber said on the beach scene. No sex just a make out session.

Oh and for what it is worth I was totally team Gale but he is way more my type and I can see why the author had Katniss and Peeta end up together. They work. And I have to say I couldn't have ended up with Gale knowing he helped create the bomb that killed my sister even if that wasn't his intention.

One other death that killed me in Mockingjay was Finnick. I loved him.

This is pretty much my exact reaction and I agree with the beach make-out session.
