Fort Lauderdale

Good morning - I am leaving for Fort Lauderdale this coming Saturday.  DH and I (and most of his family) will be leaving on a cruise that departs on Sunday afternoon.  We land in Fort Lauderdale about 7:30pm that night.  We are staying at the Holiday Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport.  The address is actually Hollywood, Florida.  We'll be eating dinner Saturday night in Fort Lauderdale, and we aren't supposed to be at the ship until 1:30pm Sunday afternoon.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to eat or things we should do Saturday night/Sunday morning?

Re: Fort Lauderdale

  • We have done the same thing and we loved the restaurants and shops on Los Olas Boulevard.  DH and I ate at the Big City Tavern and it was very good.  It is kind of a swankier brew pub type place.  It had a big patio so you could people watch ; )
  • H2O Cafe is a great restaurant right on the beach on the main drag. It is a lot nicer (aka, not terrible loud music!) than other places in the area. You can eat outside and get a great view. We got great service and food there.

  • Thanks!  How close is the main drag to the Fort Lauderdale Airport?  We're staying just south of the airport.

  • What ship are you sailing on? FYI, if it's a Royal Caribbean ship, you can usually board much earlier - between 11 and 12. Just a few weeks ago, we were having lunch at Park Cafe on the Oasis of the Seas before noon!
  • We're on the Celebrity Solstice.  The ship leaves at 4pm.

  • The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel is supposed to be a totally fun place (always rec'd by Angelfire) with restaurants, clubs & lounges, a casino, shopping, etc.:

  • I find the hard rock boring and kind of creepy in its emptiness.

What kind of food do you like and what price range are you looking at?

ETA Will you have a car?

  • I would be up for any type of food.  My only thing when I go on vacation, is I try not to eat at restaurants where I could eat back at home.  We'll be with his whole family....so dinner, I could see something price wise $10-$15 per person.  I"m guessing lunch on Sunday would be a quick type of lunch.

No, we will not have a car.  The Holiday Inn has free transfer from the hotel to the cruise port.  So, I would assume Saturday night would need to be close to the hotel for places to eat/things to do.  Sunday we would be able to do things around the cruise port.
