CD is overwhelming

I have a friend how offered me her stash, but in the mean time I've been researching tons of different kinds/brands of cloth diapers. Now I feel very overwhelmed!

ETA: Mom's who CD, please share what you like etc. What brands.. what you used for the Newborn stage etc. As well as anything else!

Re: CD is overwhelming

  • I was also fairly overwhelmed.  So I had decided right from the get go not to bother CDing in the newborn stage.  I didn't want to have to buy 2 different stashes.  And figured I'd have enough stress with the new baby and didn't want to have to worry about that too.   I've heard a lot of people go with prefolds and covers for newborn.

I bought a few different types of diapers to try as I started out.  And my sister also gave me her stash to use.  I personally prefer my Fuzzibuns diapers.  I got a bunch of OS pockets and I like them because I can adjust them to fit Kenz's little legs.  Lots of people do not like them though.  I also have some Grovia Hybrids which I love.  I haven't used them with the disposable liners yet though.  I also have a bunch of AMP and Rocky Mountain diapers from my sis.

Jillian's Drawers does a trial so you can try a bunch of different types and decide what works for you.  I've heard really good things about it (http://www.jilliansdrawers.com/products/clothdiapers/tryclothfor10/newborntryclothdiapersfor10

What I've learned from CD forums, etc, is that everyone has different preferences.  One person may hate a certain diaper and that is someone else's favourite.

I still use disposable at night (too scared to jinx my 12 hour sleeper with a CD) and when we are out and about.  I'm kind of a half a$$ed CDer Smile

  • We use the Flip diapers. We didn't go the 'buy a bunch and see what you like' route. We have 6 covers and 18 inserts, I do CD laundry every other day.

D was 3 weeks old before we put him in cloth. The Flips were still pretty big on him.  we just used disposables before then. It wasn't worth it to me to buy a newborn stash.

    Then (3 weeks)

  • I didn't start CDing until Parker was 6-7 months because I couldn't get Rusty on board.  I finally said screw it and started without his permission!

My favorites are bum genuis OS and I stuff them with prefolds.  I like the aplix better since changing diapers is a chore now, but the aplix doesn't last as long as the snaps.  I have about 20 diapers and I bought every one of them from someone else.  I spent less than $200 for everything.  I do laundry every 2-3 nights.

When we go on vacation I use grovia's with the disposable insert because I don't want to take my whole stash with me.  That would add a whole other suitcase!

We use disposables at night because Parker was a heavy wetter and I never found anything that would hold him in without giving him huge fluff butt.  His jammies quit fitting because his butt was so big.

  • Thanks ladies.

I have two friend's that used Fuzzibuns from the day they got home with their baby and they both liked them. So we shall see.  I do have one of my friends who isn't planning on having more kids so I will get her diaper stash so we'll see how they work out. I think most of them were Fuzzibuns or Kushies.

  • From the research I've done, it seems no two babies are alike, and like Lindsay said, it's really trial and error what you seem to like and what works for your baby. Most forums will recommend a trial, like the $10 one from Jillian's Drawers. I've started collecting for our stash, so far I have 2 Rumparoozs and 3 BG 4.0s and I've spent about $50-60 on them, all brand new from sites running specials. I'm still not sure if we'll CD from the start or not. If we do, I plan on going the cheaper way and doing prefolds from GMD (great reviews and gotta support VT businesses!) and covers. I don't really want to mess with fitteds and covers and the expense of fitteds for a NB. Just my two cents.

I LOVE my GMD prefolds!  That is what I stuff my pockets with!  The microfiber would hold everything, but the stank that came from them was horrendous.

I bought some BG on a seconds sale and thought I'd just stuff them with GMD prefolds.  We have hard water and microfiber scares me.  Which size do you use?  The newborns or smalls?

On topic:  Like everyone else said, opinion seems to be different from person to person.  I've done "research" by watching ton of CDing moms on youtube.  There is a crazy amount of videos on the topic there.  I plan to get some kissaluvs all in ones.  It looks like they recently came out with an AIO that is just like their fitteds.  So I think for newborn I will get a couple of those and then the GMD prefolds and covers.  I also might get some little joeys just because they are so darn cute, but my family tends to have big babies so I don't know how economical that would be.  I also plan on building a OS stash of different brands and then buying more of what I like later on.

  • I can't remember what color edging they are, but I will look when I get home.  I definitely didn't get them very big.  I fold them in thirds and then stuff them.
