Moms of toddlers

What are some favorite foods? I feel like DS is eating similar food all the time. Do you make special food for them? He eats whatever we eat unless it is junk or very spicy.

Re: Moms of toddlers

  • I don't have a toddler yet, but Wyatt eats whatever we are eating since we are doing BLW.  Having him eat what we eat has caused me to buy more healthy things to make.

He had black beans last night with the tacos we had and he LOVED them.  I also bought some plain hummus this week at publix since it was on sale for him to try.  I usually eat hummus with pita chips or raw mini carrots but didn't want Wyatt to have either of those yet so I bought a cucumber that I will cut into spears for him to dip.

Some of his other favs are cantaloupe, cinnamon raisin bagels, waffles, shredded cheese, applesauce, avocado, veggies (green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), meat (chicken, pork and venison), home made mac n' chese,

  • I should say I struggle with breakfast/lunch to send to the babysitter. What do you send for Wyatt?

For daycare I do send purees since I am not 100% confident in him not gagging on something and freaking out his sitter. Smile  Breakfast for him at daycare is usually a bottle and yogurt mixed with some sort of fruit puree.  Lately it has been pumpkin that we grew in our garden and I had in the freezer.  Lunch is some sort of veggie puree.  Since eats bagels/muffins/waffles fine for breakfast at home I am thinking I am going to start letting her feed him those items and see how he does.

  • I do the same as K&K, giving Jamie whatever we are eating is it is not too spicy, etc.  Some of my go-to quick food are:

    • Morningstar frozen Veggie Patties-These are Jamie's FAVE
    • Aunt Jemima's frozen silver dollar pancakes (for breakfast)
    • Thinly sliced pears, sliced grapes, mashed bananas, etc
    • Tofu bites:  Cut up firm tofu into dice-sized pieces or sticks.  Crush (I use the food processor) corn flakes or cheerios.  Dip the tofu in a scrambled egg yolk then roll it in the cereal.  Bake at 350 on a greased cookie sheet for 20 minutes, turning halfway through.  I freeze a bunch for quick meals later.
    • Cheese shreds
    • Canned beans (blackeyed and black) and frozen veggies
    • Gerber Graduates pasta pickups, but I slice them in half
    • Mac and Cheese
    • cubes of steamed rutabega or sweet potato

Can't think of any more right now but that might help!!!

  • DD is really into grits lately.  She'll pretty much eat what we eat.  She also loves fruit snacks, but those are probably still too small for your DS.
