Best dinner spot downtown?

I think H and I are going to do an early Valentine's this weekend. I have to get my thoughts together as I was thinking I still had 14 days to plan. (There is nothing wrong with procrastination! Smile)

We have a Groupon for Brenton Skating Plaza so I think we'll do that; it looks like it will be nice. I'd like to do dinner downtown somewhere too since we don't often eat there. I'd like somewhere semi-quiet, affordable, non-Italian, and tasty. If there is something within walking distance of Brenton - bonus points!

Does anyone know if the Papajohn Sculpture Park or that little Chinese bridge thing is well-lit at night? We might venture on a walk too if it's not too chilly.

Any other ideas? We'll be baby-free from Thursday evening until Saturday afternoon.

Re: Best dinner spot downtown?

  • The sculpture park is lit at night but is a looooong walk from the skating plaza - well over a mile one way.

I'm not sure about the bridge.

Centro is a good restaurant - on the NW corner of 10th and Locust. There used to be a restaurant called Azalea that was also really good - I'm not sure if it's still there but it's worth checking out. It's on Walnut between 4th and 5th across from Capital Square. It's a lot closer to the skating plaza. There is also a restaurant across from the sculpture park that is nice. I believe it is called Americana or Americano. It's by Ford and Garland on Locust on the south side of the sculpture park.

Nothing downtown is going to be very quiet but those will probably be quieter than anything on Court Ave.

    Good luck and have fun!

  • We love Django downtown - I like that you can get a burger for $9 or you can get filet for like $30 - so a wide variety of prices and always delicious (also no corking fee ever - so if you like wine bring a bottle with!)

Alba in the East Village is tasty and I've been wanting to try Lucca in the East Village as well.

We love sushi - so Myabi 9 in the East Village is delicious as well.  I have not eaten at Bos but it's in the Savory hotel but a gal I work with was just raving about it a couple weeks ago too.

How fun!  Enjoy your time as a couple!

Alas, Azalea is no more.  It has been turned into the Kirkwood Lounge.  It would still probably fit the bill.  The prices are a little more than I like to pay to go there for an average lunch day but should be fine for a Valentine's dinner out.  I can't attest to the food but it should be a quiet atmosphere and is close to the skating plaza.

  • I love Centro as well! That is probably my favorite! I also really like Django and Court Avenue brewing company is good but probably not quiet

  • Thanks for the ideas ladies! We might try Myabi 9 as we both like sushi, but rarely order it.
  • Americana!
